More top high school players are competing in NJ for their high schools (as opposed to amateur non-scholastic teams or out-of-state programs). It used to be common to see a player transfer out of NJ after 9th or 10th grade to play at a top level program (often in New England). The quality of high school play (and the availability of rinks) has improved steadily over the last decade.
