My apologies if this has already been posted somewhere.
Will Powers, who is a 6-0 2016 SG from Malvern Prep, has committed to HC as a preferred walk-on.

No. They just didn't input stats for most of their games. No-one on the team has stats for more than six games.

I wasn't judging him by his skills, but rather where he played in HS. Based on his very low assist totals, he must have been playing mostly SG. Will have to wait and see, but as you know, everyone is a star on a highlight video.

i don't know anything of powers, but trust carmody. anyone over 5'10 who can play point guard was by far the top priority in my eyes for next year. we could not go into next season running the risk for the same lack of offensive production and defensive liability at the position that we wore like an anchor last year. if powers can provide some safeguard against a recurrence of that, we will immediately be a deeper and less vulnerable team. i feel more confident knowing we may have an insurance policy in that respect.

so he's guaranteed to be a walk-on on the team? are there tryouts for the walk-on spots? how many are taken?

Completely agree dado - and it looks like Carm did as well. Smart move as he didn't have to burn the last scholarship.

I would be very surprised if a preferred walk-on gets meaningful minutes as a frosh. I would also be very surprised if AT struggles next year the way he did for much of this year.

I'm glad we went this route, keeping a slot in 2017 to bring in a GTBTBU (Guy That Brings The Ball Upcourt. Once in frontcourt, they're all playmakers. Defense, I know is different). I am bullish too on Ziggy for next year.
Need a quality Long Guy now to counter Cimino going to AU.

I would assume he would be in the running to earn his own schollie later on as well?

I would assume he would be in the running to earn his own schollie later on as well? Yes he would be Dave.
A lot of these type of situations are "wink-wink" type of deals with the understanding that if the kid performs he'll get one down the road.
A case of this in reverse is Doug McDermott at Creighton who came off scholarship for his senior year to free up a slot for a kid who was granted a SIXTH year of eligibility. Easy to do when your dad is the coach and makes real good dough I guess...

Hopefully you are correct, but it is nice to have this insurepance policy sounds like a policy that may go into effect in 2017 when it matures and the premium is paid... wonder if he is in the 765 or #766 of 2020.
