From memory, the schedules were much shorter and so much harder to win 20 games than today even if the competition was equal. But let's not forget that in those days, while we recall the St. John's, Providence, BC and even UCLA games, they were offset by games against St. Michael's, St. Anselm's, Assumption's, Springfield, etc. Comparing to 50 years ago is pretty useless. There are so many variables that have changed over the decades. One of hose variables is the PL. Though the 4 opponents you mentioned were weak, there was nothing like 18 games(more than half the schedule) against one of the country’s weakest conferences, plus Sacred Heart, UNH, FDU (in most seasons)etc

So they "made him an offer he could not refuse." Interesting. I woder how often he got ejected coaching in Canada (if at all)? I remember the "over/under" that was going around on how often he would be ejected from games at HC Do you recall him being ejected from any game ? I saw many, home and away. I do not remember any. I may be remembering technicals (of which he had MANY) with ejections...old age.

No question he had many Ts, but always knew the limit of the refs to avoid being tossed. Assistant Jim Herrion was far, far more fiery, and had many Ts also. He may have been tossed, not Jack.

Hoops you certainly are Jack D's biggest fan. When you're talking winning percentage let's start by eliminating an average of 3 non D-1 wins per year for Donohue. Doubt Blaney had 3 non D-1 wins total in his time here. I'm sure if you're talking strictly D-1 wins Blaney has a better winning percentage. I want to repeat for you again Donohue's record in crucial high leverage end of season games. 3-15 total, 2/10 in home games and not a home win in his career against arch rival BC, truly pathetic. It took Blaney two years to get us back to the NIT something Jack was never able to accomplish, and no it wasn't because there were more teams invited as the field was 16 same as when Donohue was coaching. Jack was also at the helm for one of the most embarrassing defeats in program history when his 18-8 team was run out of the gym by Assumption. I'd take Willard or Blaney any day over Jack D unless of course you're looking for a funny story.

Can we postpone the burial for another inquiry? I wonder if Kareem kept in touch with him after UCLA and had a chance to appreciate his HS coach, as sometimes happens with experience in life, before Jack passed?

Good luck tonight Malcom. Bring home the ring that Jimmy Murray came close to getting a few months ago.

I wonder if Kareem kept in touch with him after UCLA and had a chance to appreciate his HS coach, as sometimes happens with experience in life, before Jack passed? At Jack’s Memorial service in Manhattan after his funeral in Canada, Kareem gave an eloquent eulogy in which he spoke of his coach’s influence on his growth as a man. Never mentioned basketball. Kareem stayed for the length of the 2-3 hour reception speaking to any who wished to engage him. He was interesting and sincere.

St Anselm's (multiple games), Rochester (multiple) during GB's early years at HC.

Just about every D1 program played D2/D3 schools until they changed the rules. As those game no longer count as wins, they are a rarity.
What might have been unusual about those days was that HC played AC and Springfield, at least while I was in college, on the ROAD. So did Providence, at least once, then Gavitt came to his senses.

I like the old unwritten rules of mutual respect between schools better. In general I think HC plays home and home against schools that are on their way up that we might be able to negotiate unequal scheduling with. I hope it's not: "We would (selfishly schedule home games only for our advantage) if we could, but we can't."

I remember the reaction of Sacred Heart when HC played at their place for the first time. They were thrilled to get HC at home.

I didn't see MM's name in the box score with a 'dnp' - was he a healthy scratch last night?, as there were 5 names I didn't recognize with dnp's

Believe he was in street clothes. I believe GS used all 13 guys, which is very unusual for such a close, critical game

GSW used 11, still a lot. But Thompson and Looney left with injuries. Bell and Evans were DNPs

As VanGundy said , that Warrior team without Thompson, Durant and Looney would not have made the playoffs. Friday with Thompson and maybe Durant May be very different.

Yes. as I recall, he didn't touch or come near the ball on either offense or defense in his 50 +/- seconds as both teams were running out the clock. But, good to see #13 in the game. First in these finals, I believe.

The Raptors are up 3 games to 1. I did not watch the last game last night live and knowing Malcolm is down the bench, fast forwarded to the end of the first half and the end of the game. It appears that he was sitting behind the team chairs wearing street clothes. Can anyone enlighten me as to whether he is injured or other reason he would not be suited up?

sader1970 I believe each team is allowed to dress 13 players for each game. It appears that the Raptors have alternated the 13th spot between Malcolm and OG Anunoby with Malcolm dressed for Games 1 and 3 and Anunoby dressed for Games 2 and 4. I doubt that the rotation has much to do with injury for either player but rather is being used as a “reward” for each of them and an opportunity to receive at least a partial playoff share.

sader1970 Upon further review (as they say in the NFL), it appears that Anunoby had an emergency appendectomy in mid-April and is still recovering. He played in 50-70 games for the Raptors the last 2 years including over 60 starts last year and has averaged 20 mpg in those 2 yrs. Apparently was starting early this season in a rotation with Siakam before Siakam won the starting role. It will be interesting to see who dresses on Monday night—hopefully MM.
