His best case this year is to contend at some point to be on the 15-player roster. Maybe to even suit up for some games later in the season and get noticed. His two-way contract is one that means he will mainly play in the D-League, with a chance of getting brought up for some games when injuries strike. Given the ankle surgery he had in July, is he even practicing with the team yet? Toronto btw is currently carrying 19 on their roster, including MM. Of those, 13 have guaranteed contracts for real dollars. Two more have guaranteed contracts for small minimums, and two have two-way contracts (MM and Lorenzo Brown) that will have them playing largely in the D-League, at least early in the season. Another player with a two-way contract is John Holland, who played for Boston U. He has a deal with the Cavs.

bison137--thanks for the explanation. For me these things--contracts, practice teams, D-League, etc--can get complicated. Your insights help make it easier to understand.

bison137--thanks for the explanation. For me these things--contracts, practice teams, D-League, etc--can get complicated. Your insights help make it easier to understand. Here is an article that explains most of the details of the new two-way contract, not in very favorable terms. Players make more money ($75,000 for the year) but can't be on the NBA team's roster for more than 45 days. And unlike a normal D-League player, they are locked into only being able to play for the one team, as opposed to being available for 30 teams.

This is a fantastic opportunity for MM. Gets a chance to be seen everyday by an nba team, to practice and learn from the best. Go Malcolm.

Great story, thanks'92. Will never forget his 6 blocks in the first half of a game against Loyola. Hope he can make the dream come true.

Great story! Nice find...I always knew he had ups, but 11'11" vertical jump reach is way up there! That is 3 inches ABOVE the box on the backboard!!

I don't believe MM on on the Raptors roster - where is he these days - still rehabbing the ankle or playing in the G-League ?

is he hurt or was it a DNP-CD? Odd the sign a guy to a 2 way and not play him those are supposed to be the guys you have hope for! Yes, still rehabbing from an ankle injury. There is no guarantee as to the players on two-way contract getting more playing time however. Many players would not or could not sign two-ways - including some of the league's top players. Once you sign a two-way contact, you cannot be signed/called up by any other NBA team. If you don't sign a two-way, you are available to every team. Also if a player signs a two-way contract, he cannot spend more than 45 days on an NBA roster. A number of D-League players over the years have signed with NBA teams and played far more than 45 days over the course of the season. One other factor in terms of two-way contracts is that any player who has been in the league more than four years is ineligible to sign one.
