On another thread, someone posted the definition of another word seemingly thrown about willy-nilly by our atheist-in-residence, Sarasota, about the Joyce Contemplative Center. But the word that he seems to use most often to characterize our alma mater is "seminary" and many of us have taken him to task for his doing so. But, I thought I might get the official definition of "seminary" in Merriam-Webster and it appears that I owe Sarasota an apology because it seems that he is correct. Here is the definition: While many of us traditionally think the word "seminary" means the definition 2 b (and perhaps Sarasota might mean it that way), Holy Cross most definitely meets the criteria in definition 2 a, and possibly in definition 1. So, for now on, I will assume that he refers to definition 2 a and will accept his position that Holy Cross is indeed a seminary and apologize for my ignorance of the full meaning of the word. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/seminary
