CC says cheating is just part of the game, as long as you don't bunt while he's pitching

If you saw any of the 4 game series in New York this past weekend, the Sox are doing a really poor job of stealing signs being outscored 21-9 That's because they got caught before that series. Now they have to do it the old-fashioned way, which they're obviously not very good at.

The game I went to against the Red Sox, I was amazed at how few swing and misses Sonny Gray was able to get on his way to a 0 strikeout day. After the cheating was revealed, he got 9 strikeouts in his next outing against the Sox Guess it's tough to generate swings and misses if the hitter knows what's coming on every pitch.

At least the Sox did not try to take any air out of the ball.

Hmm. Must be a Boston thing. Let's see . . . . Red Sox . . . . Patriots . . . . BC basketball, though in that case it was point shaving, I believe.

Hop Riopel's signal to steal 2nd base was a quick, short nod of the head toward 2nd, no apple watch needed, and it was never detected ... (Is it ok to reveal this 50 years later?)

Should manager, if culpable, get a lifetime ban?

I am not enough of a MLB fan anymore to spend the time to look it up but how come it is alright and "traditional" to steal signs but not OK to do it using technology? Where in the rule book does it say that and what is the exact wording?
Does it say, "stealing signs is part of the game but using enhanced technology is forbidden?"

Many baseball fans remember Bobby Thomson's "shot heard round the world" but how many remember that the Giants revealed they were getting the Dodger signs from a man in the scoreboard?

The rules prohibit using electronic stuff to steal signs. The Red Sox should be penalized for it. I do not think there is a clearly defined penalty
There is no rule against manually stealing signs. If you have a runner on 2nd base and your signs are so simple that he can figure them out and relay them to the batter, then shame on you. Actually, even though it is not written down and technically not illegal, there is a clearly defined penalty for a player stealing signs: that player gets drilled with a pitch. There is a great story in baseball lore where Bob Gibson was being uncharacteristically polite and told a runner on 2nd who was stealing signs to knock it off or someone is going to get hurt.
I'm assuming ncaam was kidding about a lifetime ban. This strikes me as in line with doctoring the baseball or corking a bat and I would assume the penalty be in line with those

While I will freely admit that I think the country has too many lawyers, I would think that MLB, NFL and other professional sports would learn from "deflatgate" and this episode to codify their sanctions and violations. Otherwise, whatever penalties are open to wide interpretation, conflict and likely lawsuits . . . . so the lawyers win, anyway. I fully understand that it is pretty much impossible to think of every conceivable violation but it would seem that the Commissioner of the sport right now has too much leeway to do nothing or too much and knowing the penalties in advance might even act as a deterent. And Judge Mountain Landis is no where to be seen.

Let me get this straight..Somebody watches the TV monitor and sees the catchers sign. Then text to the Assistant trainer what the pitch is going to be. The trainer then tells somebody else in the dugout, who signals the runner on second, who signals the hitter.....all before the pitcher throws the pitch.....That better be a very slow worker on the mound!

I think the allegation was that they were figuring out which signal in the series was the live signal and communicating that to the baserunner. Then the guy on base would watch the sequence of signs on each pitch and tell the hitter what was coming.
