The Pards are having a rough year (as is most of the PL). They are 0-4 with losses at Monmouth (31-12) and Villanova (59-0), and at home to Sacred Heart (38-24) and Princeton (38-17). Massey has HC Favored by 22 points (42-20).
In their last game they were winning into the second quarter, then tied at 10 when Princeton scored 14 points to open a lead they would never relinquish. Freshman quarterback Sean O’Malley threw for a career-high 325 yards, completing 30-of-44 (career highs) for two touchdowns. O’Malley found seven targets, including Joey Chenoweth who finished with four catches for 113 yards, including a 70-yard TD strike early in the fourth quarter." I can see HC's pass defense being tested in this game. Last year, the Pards threw for 280 yards completing 33 of 46 passes (to 230 for HC without Peter). They led in the 3rd quarter and scored 28 points on the HC defense . Having to pass so often, there was not much to see in the Lafayette rushing attack. Brandon Bryant carried 5 times for 45 yards.
On defense, Brandon Bryant made a game-high 13 tackles, including nine solo stops, and added an interception on Princeton’s first drive of the third quarter.
Lafayette had 361yards on offense to 450 by Princeton. The Pards were hurt by 8 penalties (66 yards).
I hope we get some comments here from Lafayette posters.

This is a great opportunity for us to come out and put Dartmouth behind us and sharpen our tools as we head into mid-season.

We have a real chance to bounce back with a big Homecoming win against Lafayette but as good as I think out team is - not as good as we thought after soundly beating UNH and not as bad as we feel now after just losing to Dartmouth ON THE ROAD - 22 points sounds much too high a spread. No matter who our opponent, if we make stupid mistakes and don't execute or, worse, underestimate our opponent, we could lose this one too. Buckle down and focus, we are a better team and should win, hopefully easily.

Would be nice to not have a heart attack this weekend. Get out in front early and put it away, for the love of God.

Looks like frosh Sean O'Malley may be the next big thing for the Pards and the PL. Here is the LC article abuts second selection as Rookie of the Week.
EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette freshman quarterback Sean O'Malley (Beverly Hills, Calif./Loyola) has been tabbed as the Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week for the second time in the 2017 season.
O'Malley is coming off one of his best games in a brief Lafayette career, as he completed 30-of-44 for 325 yards (all career highs) with a pair of touchdowns against Princeton. One of his touchdowns was a 70-yard strike to junior WR Joey Chenoweth, who finished with four catches for 113 yards. Through just four games, O'Malley has shown his ability to spread the ball around, connecting with seven receivers in the Princeton, Sacred Heart and Monmouth games, while hitting eight pass-catchers at Villanova.
His week-two performance against Sacred Heart garnered him his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor, completing 25-of-44 passes for 276 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in the home opener on Sept. 9. O'Malley is the first Lafayette player in the Patriot League era (since 1986) to start at quarterback as a freshman. For the season, he is completing 61 percent of his passes (97-of-159) with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.Lafayette opens Patriot League play on Saturday at Holy Cross at 1 p.m.

He's throwing a lot of interceptions--let's see if we can pick off two or three on Saturday

Well said, KY. Since everyone in the stadium knows when Lafayette has to pass, I imagine there are a lot of folks moving to the ball as soon as he releases it. And, he is still a frosh. Hopefully he will not learn how to avoid ints by Saturday!

By way of contrast: in his first season Dom Randolph posted 19 TD passes vs 6 interceptions. For Peter Pujals it as 19 vs. 8

I may have missed this, but Richie DeNicola continue to be listed on the depth chart as a starting receiver but I haven't seen a catch out of him since Bucknell. In fact, he hasn't even played the past two weeks on the participation report. The other WR's have stepped up, but this was a big part of the offense last year. Anyone know what's going on with him?

I was at the Bucknell game. (In NHL vernacular) Lower body injury in the first half. Had his shoulder pads off coming out of the locker room for the second half.

rb Cozier has also been absent for the last two weeks. rb's get hurt during a long season, we need this guy in the lineup. Don't know the story. He's still on the roster but not on the 2-deep.

back to the topic, the 'pards are terrible. apparently we're a 24 pt favorite and that sounds right (i'd give the points if I was a betting man). their program is in a very bad way, and this might be a winless season depending on the outcome at Georgetown on Nov. 4th. Is there help on the way ? not if this post on the 'pards board is accurate: "The friends of football had a big meeting this saturday before the game , where bruce told them that they needed to go out and raise more money because the school was going to cut the football budget again" .

Lafayette's opponents are averaging 5.0 yards per rushing attempt. In the air, opponents have completed 75% of their pass attempts for 8.3 yards per pass attempt....
When LAF has the ball, rushing offense (taking out the QB O'Malley whose rushing stats are really mostly his yardage lost by sacks) gets about 2 yards per carry....

On a more serious note, I hope the candidates to replace Pujols at QB next year get some quality playing time on Saturday. It's never too early to be thinking about next year. Not to mention that it would be a disaster for this year if Pujols were to get hurt playing against the Pards.
