rgs has the most purple-tinted glasses out there - that's the craziest thing he's said in awhile - she committed to Delaware originally, calm down please. let's agree she 'might' make an immediate impact'. - goodness knows we'll need her (4 seniors started the last game for us)

Hoops and haze, as a reminder, here's what Rob wrote:
1. He is quoting the recruit's coach in the first sentence but also states her coach has won 1,000 games and further up on the thread it says he's coached for 45 years. That is a lot of experience.
2. She did win the regional player award and the article gives her stats.
Based on what he's read and his knowledge of Jersey basketball, he concluded she is a solid enough prospect to make an immediate impact on the team.
He didn't say she's the next Rebecca Lobo.

I read it accurately the first time If she is “possibly the best in the state” she would be on the Lobo level, and would not be coming to HC Even experienced, successful coaches overrate their own players.

Why do I think you are the exception?

Yes, I have. I saw her team knock off a very good IHA team in regular season. When Jeff (whom I have known for many years) says that she is the best athlete he has ever coached, he is not just blowing hot air. She is also a player who puts her team first and follows the coach's game plan.

The Delaware video shows highlights from her soph season. She has filled out with a bit more muscle since then.

I believe she will make an immediate impact since she can play at almost any position if needed. Her "natural" spot is probably as a shooting guard, and her defense is very good. That might see her as a first off the bench - a strong #6 player - as a frosh. What have you seen that makes my comment "crazy?" I am assuming if you say that then you must have seen her play. Have you?

Possibly the best does not make her in any way equal to one of the best players of all time, does it? Just for the record, I never made any claims comparing her to Lobo at any time. I did say that his comments "sound like he is describing" that is hardly the same thing. Also, the argument that if we got her she can't be all that good is absurd (and might be seen as a bit offensive to HC and our current players).

'one of the best players in the country' ? ! - from your lips to God's ears - I'd add a few prayers as well.

Who claimed that? You seem to hold HC in very low regard with the certainty you have in dismissing her partly because she will be coming here. The idea that unless you can name someone else who came to the PL you cannot say anything about the ability of this recruit defies logic. Is there something you have seen in HER play that indicates the praise she has received to be out of line?

Plus a highly-ranked 6-4 center from Camden has yet to commit. As you know, the rankings are often inaccurate, but all of those players are ranked ahead of Petro. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters in terms of basketball is how they do when they get to college.

Here’s what her coach said:
This is my 45th year coaching, and I have had a ton of great floor generals in my time. Kelly Petro is as complete a floor general, team leader and team player that I’ve ever had. She is so multi-faceted that she affects the game without scoring points. Every young girl should come and watch her play and learn the pure art of basketball."
I don’t think he’s calling her the best player in the state or the country. She sounds like a great kid who can do everything pretty well, is a team player who makes those around her better and is very coachable. Hopefully that all turns her into an All-PL performer for us. Time will tell.

Did the coach happen to give you any insight into what made her choose HC? I assume the facilities have to be having a decent amount of impact.

I think Raquel Scott's career at HC (a graduate of nearby IHA) - they know each other - may have been an influence. The new facilities did have a positive impact.
Her game reminds me of Rocky in some/many ways, but I think Kelly has a better long range shooting eye. She is not yet as tough under the boards as Rocky became at HC. We'll see.

I've seen Kelly play and feel she can contribute in time.-- I am friendly to one of her closest friends and her AAU teammate, a 'Nova commit.--- Tells me Kelly is not only underrated but a great player, a very hard worker, a great teammate, and a class act.-- A winner, she will make 'Sader fans proud.

The thing I liked about the video is it showed her scoring with both hands going to the hoop....Not many sophomore girls can do that well...and she runs very well..

Kelly Petro had a triple double to lead her Pascack Valley team to a quarter final win in the Bergen County Tournament. She had 18 points (including four 3 point shots), 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. A nice game against Ridgefield Park.

If she's coming to Holy Cross, those lofty numbers must mean she plays in a lousy high school conference [he said sarcastically].
Good for her!!!

I haven't read about any women's hoop LOI. Is this when they are signed, or do they have to wait until after their season?

These 3 signed in the early signing period back in November (see page 1 of this thread) The next for BB 2018 begins in April I think, wonder if we will sign one or two more as I think they have at least 2 maybe three scholarships in hand.

Kelly Petro had another big game in the State Tournament. Her Pascack Valley team easily beat Sparta (47-34). Kelly had 14 points (4 of 4 from 3 point range and 2 FTs), 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Each time there is a mention of her, they add..."committed to Division 1 Holy Cross" Nice publicity for the team and school. Pascack Valley BTW is currently 28-2, won their conference and took second place in the County Tournament.
