This is a great addition to what HC offers

Now if we can just turn Holy Cross into a place where we can generate more religious vocations, we can truly become a seminary (once again). 😊

According to Fr. K's book, fostering vocations was one of the main motivations for the establishment of HC.

Oh....so it is a seminary. Just following your implication.

Touché, Sarasota, using sarcasm in response to sarcasm. I knew you had it in you.

Sarcasm is OK if used sparingly.

I attended the reception for faculty at the Joyce Contemplative Center yesterday. I had been at the site while construction was under way, but this was my first time in the new building. The whole set-up took my breath away. The architect had several Ignatian texts to work with, and incorporated a number of these ideas into the design of the building. The lighting in the chapel, for instance, evokes the statement of Ignatius that, when he gazed at the stars, he was moved to generosity. The bedrooms have a variety of shapes, all with a comfortable chair and good lighting and large windows. The dining room's windows also take in "the view."
All the permits and inspections are now complete. The first student retreats take place there this weekend.
What an absolutely fantastic addition to our resources and spaces!

You cannot be serious. You need to get out more if you think that building is decadent.

The context is the stated function of the venue--contemplation. Devoting a multi million dollar complex to it is decadent. Windows affording panoramic views of the Wachusett Reservoir. St. Francis of Assisi must be turning over in his grave.

St. Francis of Assisi must be turning over in his grave. He may well be with the earthquakes in Italy this past week. Imagine having windows in a contemplation center...clearly over the top. And a great view?! Could they perhaps build a large wall to get rid of that? Take it easy, Sota. Perhaps you could spend a few days at the center and experience what you seem to find so upsetting. It might alter your point of view.

rgs- The summer prior to entering HC I made a retreat at the Cistercian Monastery in Spencer, MA (where one of my HC classmates is a monk). And at HC I was invited to Fr. O'Callaghan's small group on the Spiritual Exercises. So I am familiar with such things.
KY- That's not funny. The earthquake is an immense tragedy. And a Saint, especially St. Francis, is not someone to joke about.

I was in Assisi when there was a quake many years back. It destroyed part of the Church, but that has since been rebuilt. There were many people who pitched in to help both wth the expense and the labor of the rebuilding. I believe that Saints do not lose their sense of humor with their "promotion." Sota, were there any windows in Spencer?

rgs- The Cistercian monastery is not a spa-like place. BTW, The Basilica atop St. Benedict's birthplace in Norcia, Italy has been destroyed by the earthquake.

Spa-like or not, did it have windows?

Mostly stained glass, which is a window one cannot see through. What's your point? Was my remark about how the Contemplative Center is promoted too subtle for you?

Hardly subtle - given you compared it to the Taj Mahal. Picking on a "window"and the view to say it is a spa, IMO is more than a bit over the top. Couldn't one say that Stained Glass in a monastery is a spa-like frill? I have been saying over and over that your criticism of the Contemplative Center seems way off base. I trued to show some concrete examples of your excesses you offered in trying to make your argument. Was that too subtle for you?
