Any thoughts on hiring Cleveland's pitching coach (for the last 4 years) as the new Met manager? Mickey Callaway was named after Mickey Mantle, so his folks may not have been Met fans back then.

I believe that he was Cleveland’s pitching coach. I am hopeful that he will turn out to be a good hire

I believe that he was Cleveland’s pitching coach. I am hopeful that he will turn out to be a good hire. My bad...he was indeed. I typed that as I listened to his press conference where he spoke about the steady improvement of the Cleveland pitching staff under him. He also spoke most highly of what he learned about organizing a d leading a winning program. I hope better (and healthier) days may lie ahead for the Mets.

I really wanted Alex Cora, but the unfortunately the Sox job is much more appealing. I'm happy with Callaway. We need someone who can (maybe?) correct the horrendous career turns that Harvey and Matz have taken, and to maximize Thor and deGrom's potential.
The best part about Callaway, though, is that he is decidedly NOT a Wilpon-influenced hire. He has no ties to the organization, which hopefully means that he'll be able to act as his own man and keep the one of the worst ownership groups in sports at arm's length.

Listening to Callaway describe how he would alter a pitcher's style to help safely extend his innings was interesting. It is often said that catchers are the best managers in that regard, but it may be interesting to see how this former pitcher does.
