Tim Floyd retires at UTEP due to health issues.
Can't wait for the documentary on his basketball life, which ranges from breaking up casino brawls, to "recruiting" OJ Mayo to USC, to his feud with Andy Enfield. And he could coach some basketball too (just not at the NBA level), as he nearly beat ICLA in the 1997 Sweet 16 while at Iowa St.

UNC-Charlotte has fired head coach Mark Price mid season. His son Hudson, a member of the team, in turn has immediately requested his release. Price's daughter is also currently works for the athletic dept as an assistant coach for a women's sport.

Charlotte was picked to finish 8th in CUSA, and four of the six losses this year were to Top 100 teams. How high could expectations have been to warrant a mid-season hook? Hudson is no slouch, btw, averages 29mpg, 10ppg, 5rpg - but he's a senior, so maybe "seeking release" means "I quit."

He actually resigned in disgrace.
He accused a Cal Irvine player of setting an illegal screen.
One can just not do that in California.

Tim O'Shea is only 55 years old and had two years remaining on his contract. My guess is his contract was not incentive laden and mostly guaranteed salary. I therefore have a tough time thinking this is really a retirment that was soley decided by O'Shea. My read is that the school worked out a settlement with him and are portraying it as a retirement. O'Shea was a head coach at Ohio U and Bryant for 17 years. He lives in an historic colonial house in Newport which he has had since was at Ohio. His wife is a Newport area native that he met while an assistant to Al Skinner at URI. It will be interesting to see what he now does. While he has made decent money, it is likely not enough to completely retire at his age. I would not be surprised to see TJ Sorrentine apply for the Bulldogs job. The former Vermont star is a local having grown up in Pawtucket (where he still resides) and graduated from St Raphael Academy where he played for his dad. TJ has been an assistant at Brown since 2008 and is presently the associate head coach there. He is approximately 34 years old.

His wife is a Newport area native that he met while an assistant to Al Skinner at URI. It will be interesting to see what he now does. While he has made decent money, it is likely not enough to completely retire at his age. I agree that it is unlikely it is a fully voluntary retirement. However it is questionable whether he really has two years left on his contract. When he signed the extension that is in effect now, Bryant "announced that it has signed its men’s basketball coach to an extension through 2020, a deal that the university says will be reached “based on performance and milestone triggers. O’Shea had three years remaining on his original contract, so the extension is for four more IF all of the “triggers” are exercised.” At that time, O'Shea commented that the triggers for all of the years to be in effect were very reachable. However, Bryant is 3-24 this year, following seasons of 12-19 and 8-23. Hard to believe that these sort of records would be good enough to earn him the last couple years of his contract. At Bryant, he has recently been making about $175k in base pay but with additional W-2 compensation bringing it over $250k. His base salary when he first took the Bryant job was close to $125k. He took a huge salary cut to leave Ohio U both because his wife wanted to return to the northeast and because he was almost certain to be fired at Ohio U after one more year. He interviewed for a bunch of jobs during that time period, including at Bucknell. Thankfully Bucknell did not give him a second interview.

I was surprised how long Kennedy had been there; seemed like he was at Cinci not that long ago. Guess it's because he got replaced by another bald guy (no offense, I'm as bald as they come).

Tim O'Shea coached his last game at Bryant yesterday losing at Fairleigh Dickinson Univ 87-83. His team failed to qualify for the NEC Tournament (just top 8 seeds in 10 member league) and finished 3-28 with an RPI as of today at #339.
