My sources told me Ari Confesor -HC ‘04- record holding WR & KR will join Chesney’s staff. Ari has coached WR at URI & will be a great addition to Chesney’s staff!

Was he not a big part of our last BCS win at Army?

Had a great day in that Army win. I believe a kick return for TD and a TD reception.

Telegram article today said the DC and WR/ST coaches on his AC staff are likely to join Chesney at HC.

Looks like a nice hire. I like his credentials a lot more than the guys at the long tail of our staff who typically come from schools and places I didn’t even know existed.
On side note, does anyone know what #ChesneyEra means?

#ChesneyEra apparently originated in this tweet by Holy Cross Athletics on December 14:

As a side note, Coach Colangelo's Twitter page describes his position as "Strong Safety Coach." It makes me wonder (making no judgment) how the Chesney staff will be assembled in terms of division of responsibilities.
As I understand it, under NCAA rules, there can be 10 assistant coaches. The previous staff had [1] offensive coordinator & QB coach, [2] defensive coordinator & secondary coach, [3] OL coach, [4] RB coach, [5] WR coach, [6] TE coach, [7] DL coach, [8] LB coach, [9] OLB coach, and [10] assistant secondary coach. In addition, one of these assistants serves as Special Teams Coordinator and one serves as Recruiting Coordinator.
Of the 22 positions on the field (offensive and defensive), I never understood why the OLB or the TE (each being one position out of the 22) required an individual coach. (The same might be true of the strong safety position in a standard 4-3-4 defense.)
Clearly, the allocation of the assistant coach responsibilities will be somewhat different under Coach Chesney (again, making no judgment). I'm just trying to figure out how it will be.

Depends on your scheme. For example, in a 3-4 defense, the ILB and OLB positions are totally different and the skill set required to play those positions are totally different. Additionally, CB and safety - physically - are very different positions. Without separate coaches, at any given practice there are periods of time where safeties are practicing a skill/movement they never use (vice versa for CBs).

Thanks, coach. That makes sense. HC has been using a 4-3-4 defensive alignment for the past few years. I was wondering whether having a strong safety coach might be an indication that HC would switch to a 4-2-5 (or 3-3-5) alignment.

Barese (Assumption DC) has been rumored to be coming with Chesney, but I suspect he may pursue the head job at Assumption. If he does, Assumption would be foolish not to give it to him. That would open up the search a bit. Bob Chesney has some guys in his circle (former co-workers, etc) who are TERRIFIC defensive minds...

Seeing the OC departed for Endicott, for the DC now to leave as well, and with the AD having left, not a time to conduct a nation-wide search.

As we know, the Cap doesn’t get these things wrong (unless maybe he’s had a few too many dollar LITs but it’s a little early for that) so here is some info on Coen (Maine offensive coordinator) and James (UNH Safeties coach): Coen: goblackbears.com/coaches.aspx?rc=166&path=footballJames: unhwildcats.com/coaches.aspx?rc=66&path=football

James spent one season at College of the Holy Cross, working with the defensive ends in 2002. In 2001, he served as the defensive tackles coach at the University at Albany.

James was VERY successful with New Haven when he was the defensive coordinator.

Scott James is a very good hire. He was either a player or assistant at Norwich when Chesney was on staff there. Did a remarkable job as DC at New Haven, and has been on staff with some very strong New Hampshire teams.
