OK...
At the UMASS away game in early December there was a new guy sitting at the end of the bench. He had a white shirt and tie, seemed to be about 6' 2" or 3", thin with a goatee like stach. Have not seen him before, but he was shaking hands with everyone who came out of the game and was around each huddle during a time out. Does not seem like a recruit as I do not think they can sit on the bench. Certainly not a manager, etc. as they sat behind the bench.
Have not seen him again until tonight at the Colgate game. Again, he was well dressed with a shirt and tie. He was around the huddles during the time outs, etc.
As stated before, I don't think a recruit can sit on the bench during a game. Could he be a walk-on or transfer waiting for the start of the second semester?
Does anyone know who he is and/or his status with the team?

If eligible, transfers can play after the first semester exams are over with 13 scholarships used, if he is a player, he would have to be a walk on

We don't need any more guards, we need rebounders.

This might sound silly, but I don't think transfers are allowed on the bench at road games.
Maybe a manager?

In my honest opinion, he is definitely not a manager. In the 2 games I have seen him he has not picked up/handed out a towel, water bottle, etc. At the UMASS game I observed him fist bumping players when they came out of the game and generally showing support for them. I only noticed him late in the game last night during a timeout as he was leaving the huddle heading toward the end of the bench where he sat next to Fr. ? (team chaplain). I find it odd/amusing that with all the posts we have had this year (football and basketball) from those "in the know", from those with "connected/inside sources",et.c, etc., we cannot identify this individual and/or his status with the team !

I keep forgetting to look for your mystery guy. Does he have a clipboard or anything that perhaps he is being used as a statistician? How old does he look? (Yeah, I know, I'm a very bad judge too).

If you want to see Mr. X go to the PL network and replay last night's game. Pause it at the 17:28 mark left in the first half. Ziggy will be taking the ball out with the ref to his right, hand in the air. Mr. X is clearly seen on the lower right hand corner sitting on the HC bench.

I know Wally, met him a couple of years ago, and it is definitely not Mr. X!

You would think the manager is the kid next to the chaplain in the team photo and that isn't him clearly...the mystery continues!

Wish this question had been posed earlier. I would have sent one of the kids over to ask him.

It’s not him but he looks a little like a smaller Mike Auger. Speaking of which, if we had an open scholarship, he’d be a great fit for what we need. He left the Penn team and school last year after his sophomore season when he was hampered by injuries and did not play much. The same report said he was planning to re-enroll this year at Penn but not return to basketball. Not sure if he did that or not.

Very hard to believe that could be the case.

Okay---agree that seems unlikely as we would have heard about this fellow some time in the last 12 months.... HC92 offspring may be our best bet for getting to the bottom of this mystery

What attracted my attention to Mr. X in the first place at the UMASS game was that with a quick look at him, he reminded me of our former short lived player TC. I'll repeat, what I find amusing is that with all the so-called "knowledgeable posters" who profess "inside" information from "connected sources" not one has been able to come up with who and what the status is of Mr. X. ! Do we have a "supah-sleuthah" out there? Where's "captainkarl"? (We should have an answer shortly....) !

A question for those who know the rules inside and out, what constitutes a "Second Semester Eligible Transfer" or "Second Semester Eligible Player"?

Wish this question had been posed earlier. I would have sent one of the kids over to ask him. Obviously a clear violation of the strict NCAA recruiting rules That’s an NCAA loophole we exploit regularly. All donations and tickets are in my name so the kids don’t qualify as supporters of HC athletics for NCAA purposes. I run all my recruit communications through them.* *If you are an NCAA investigator reading this, it is just a joke.
