Says all the right things but we shall see. I'm of the belief he has no idea how steep a climb he has in front of him....which is probably well and good.

Actually, in following HC football much more closely than he has in the scholarship-era, in some ways I do.....I wish him all the success in the world....good for for him, good for HC (and alumni)....he's the young wunderkind, I'm just not certain he knows what he's signed up for....again, we shall see.

How do you know how much Ches has paid attention to HC?

Because his focus week to week these last few years were, hopefully, focused on Greyhound football......

Again, the kid may do well....but let's not anoint him because he's saying the right things....he has a VERY tough job in front of him...I'll give him time.
If nothing else, I will enjoy a coaching staff engaged in the team's fortune....Gilmore usually gave up after a fact.

I hoop-- have you really reached the age when you can refer to a 40 year old as a "kid"

He's about the same age Rick Carter was when he took over, about the same age as Moorhead when he arrived at Fordham, two or three years older than Duffner and two or three years younger than Gilmore.
But yes, its gonna be quite a difficult job and if you've eyeballed the incoming recruits, recruiting is progressing as most predicted earlier this year. (Of course, recruiting is not done yet this year.) IMHO the PL overall football quality is so poor at this point and the margins between teams relatively thin that a few top recruits can (yes, even as frosh) really effect the Holy Cross W-L record within the Patriot League. (Yes, much easier said than done). Ditto for a reinvigorated/vastly improved coaching staff and player attitude.

Coach Chesney graduated the same year as my younger son who is 39. While I am sometimes tempted to think of anyone young enough to be my son as "a kid," I know he is not and treat them with the respect they deserve and have earned. I intend to refer to him as "Coach Chesney" as while he has perhaps not proven himself to many here, he has proven on more than one occasion that he can turn around a floundering football program and as I have posted before, I learned when you are looking to hire someone, look for past patterns of success.
Until he proves otherwise, we should all treat him with respect.

Indianhoop will always have a snide word for Chesney. Similar to HC70 with Pine and Carmody.

Since I have him on my ignore list, why would 87 have both TG and Coach Chesney in his "snide remark" category? One replaced the other. Is this like dissing both SK and MB? Not sure I can recall 87 having a kind word for any coach at Holy Cross with the exception of, maybe, Ralph.
Much too young to be that angry.

Nothing snide about 87. He is direct with his criticism.

Good interview.
It's interesting how much emphasis Chesney is putting on the off-field "bigger picture" student athlete -- I understand and appreciate that approach, but it almost does feel like it's coming down from the Administration that this needs to be emphasized first and foremost.
"See how much they want to be here" - Should be an interesting set of morning runs..

Seems like people are overreacting or misunderstanding what I have read hc87 to mean on the Chesney front. Seems he has pretty consistently said that he wants Chesney to show him before he’s willing to anoint him as the savior of the program and that he has a huge task in front of him. I don’t see either of those as particularly controversial. Referring to him as a kid is the one area where I’d ask that we all show our new coach the respect he deserves though it definitely makes me feel old that he is so much younger than I am. 87 also said he wants Chesney to succeed and will plan to continue to support the program as he always has for most of his life. I think he wants HC football to be successful in the worst way like most of us. He’s just a little more glass-is-half empty at the moment given how much of a struggle it’s been since the ‘91 season with a brief glimmer of hope during the Dom years. Deep breaths, everyone. If Chesney is able to turn this thing around, 87 will be just as happy as the rest of us. It definitely won’t be the situation we’ve had in the past with certain folks actively rooting for HC to lose games to get rid of a coach.

I don’t think that’s something being pushed on him by TPTB.

We have a modest family connection to one of the current frosh football players. I’m told he is very high on Coach Chesney.

IMHO we've significantly upgraded facilities and coaching staff. Significantly upgrading recruiting is a remaining challenge.
