I saw that. I wonder if we can get him to Cincinnati—alums there and have had a lot of Cincy recruits over the years

One of my LinkedIn contacts just posted a couple of pictures from the Coach Chesney Chicago alum reception. Looks like nice turnout.

“The Holy Cross Club of Chicago gathered on Tuesday evening to welcome Head Coach Bob Chesney to the HC community! Coach brings a winning attitude and an impressive background to Mount Saint James.”

The crowd in Chicago. I think if you click on the picture, it enlarges. Note tall, distinguished gentleman in the back just right of center. Believe that is Wes Champion, father of Robert Champion, on last year's basketball team. I know Wes has moved to Chicago area and is a strong supporter of Holy Cross. Attachment Deleted

There was a good turnout for the dinner with Coach Chesney. He was accompanied by the defensive coordinator Scott James, in addition to a couple of people from the alumni office. It was a good turnout, and the crowd was a little different than the typical HC Chicago club get together, definitely more football affiliated folks. A good mix of former players and parents of current/recent players. Chesney seemed very outgoing though I did not have an opportunity for a one to one conversation. He addressed the group during dinner, spoke for about 10 minutes. Great enthusiasm, confident he can get the program going in the right direction. Never disparaged former coaches or last year's team. He has charisma and projects integrity. The former players I spoke with had positive reviews of the evening.
The pictures posted above were taken immediately after Coach spoke. He was supposed to do a Q&A session after the photos, but once people got up and started mingling again (and heading back to the bar) it wasn't clear that the Q&A would get organized so I headed home. Summary: I feel optimistic about the program.
Sader 1970 is correct, Robert Champions parents were there.

Chesney raised the bar pretty high at Assumption - they still haven't found a satisfactory replacement.

Any details or announcements from the talk?
Nothing of any real significance, but I came away thinking that this guy is the real deal.
One interesting point: He spoke about team unity, and noted that at the end of the season our guys were very ready for things to be over, but shared that his prior team (over on Salisbury Street) would have readily played another three, five or ten games. They were a tight knit team that enjoyed playing football. Obviously winning helps (a lot!), but it appears that attitude is something being stressed up at the Luth. He's told his players to be engaged - on campus and in the community. To take out the ear-buds when they're walking around campus, and interact with fellow students, faculty and staff. If they're about to cross paths with him on campus, and they might be having a bad day for whatever reason, they should be prepared to fake it - to smile and tell him that things are great.
I truly believe that this guy is a winner, and that his can-do / will-do attitude will be infectious. I think we're in for some fun.
