The key section:
So, perhaps not the "total victory" some of us had hoped for. And, the BoT has now turned this back onto the administrators to figure out what a "modern Holy Cross Crusader" looks like. That'll be a challenge but I expect that the logos on football helmets, warm up jackets, etc. will be just "HC" or the new shield with the sun on it or something that doesn't look anything like an actual Crusader. We've been moving in that direction anyway since NP came to town.
How many of the 49 faculty will resign? I'm betting zero.

Thank you BoT. Very pround that my alma mater stood up for our tradition and didn’t be let the PC BS artists ruin a strong mascot. Now the fight to keep the sword and shield will be on. Students and faculty: if you are so offended I would expect you to leave the school. But it won’t happen. PATHETIC!!!!!

Hopefully our "Marvin the Martian" looking mascot will soon disappear.

Thank you Board of Trustees for listening and having the common sense not to give into these 48 liberals! ! I can now unwrap my "50 year Purple Knight lapel pin" received this past June, which would have been mailed out "priority mail" on Monday morning to Fr. Boroughs! ! I will now continue to wear it proudly as I AM A LIFETIME HOLY CROSS CRUSADER! !

I shudder to think what a "visual representation" of a Crusader of the "modern definition" could look like. We are not out of the woods yet by any means; there's still great potential for embarrassment and outrage..........

They just spent 95m on the Luth Atletic Complex and take a look at the logo on the football field! It's an armored Crusader/Knight with a lance! it is all over the place at Holy Cross! How do you walk back all of it??? Grow some and keep it the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They could decide to have no mascot, or they could dress like a Centurion, and honor Constantine. The Army mascot is a mule, the Navy's a goat.

Of course it stays. It was never going anywhere and if you had just taken a second to examine the process and who was going to make the ultimate decision you would have figured that out months ago. Hoping you are smart enough not to be one of those folks that felt like the fix was in and the nickname was toast once the discussion began.

Great cartoon and, alas, all too true. The Crusader name is staying but what possible mascot visual can we use without looking foolish?

The Crusaders mascot gets a temporary stay. Everyone however knows deep down, it will eventually be dropped at some point. It is only being kept to appease older alumni that have great attachment to it, mostly through its athletic teams. The attachment to the mascot name has however been decreasing over the years as the athletic program at Holy Cross has evolved (or for many devolved).

Wayback, Check out the many posts in general sports discussion - the thread is "C-day" and is all about what you mention. It is, after all, not just a football issue.

Really, I think the statement put out was silly and yet another worrisome trend of the school dictating what we should be "Crusaders" for. I seriously question whether the school is a place for robust discussion and debate nowadays.

If "freedom of speech" only exists for some, then it does not exist at all.

Professors you know having the same thing happen to them? Really appreciate you providing the source and specific examples of this charge.
