I think that the fact that they could put a list together of 45 or so kids (25 or so non-prep school) signing from the whole state is an indication of the level of competition.
There are individual high schools in FL (and probably CA and TX) that have almost as signings as the whole state of CT (exclusive of prep schools).

Of the CIAC (publics and parochials) signees, two to FBS schools not named UConn. The preps did significantly better at FBS signees. Only one signee from the Nutmeg state to BC.

Not that long ago, we were able to recruit a Gatorade CT State Player of the Year in RB/LB Mike Kielt out of Pomperaug HS in Southbury. Had he and his backfield classmate Terrance Gass been able to finish their senior years at Holy Cross without injury, it may have been enough to edge out Colgate for the 2008 PL title.

That's really not that bad a list imo....8 FBS, another 18 or so FCS...not 1 from HC btw....not Ohio or Texas obviously, but a solid representation from a smaller state not known for its football prowess.
