if the enhanced technology and replay rules were in place in Vicens era not sure how many games he would have finished. I played pickup ball with a Yale opponent who said that in a scramble on the floor, Vicenws bit him.

84-85 Don’t know if you had time to go back, but CARDINAL Spellman has turned over in his grave in hearing that a public school was named after him Terrific photo I went from dreading that sight in HS to loving it at HC

Also a couple of great pictures of Igor doing his thing in an earlier section of that yearbook. (Click to enlarge)
And hoops - it was just a title and we were a bit more relaxed by the late '70's and used shorthand when preparing for opponents. Guess the habit stuck. And if he lives up to his title, I'm sure His Eminence forgives me. And if not, he has to answer to a higher authority!

There is a younger version of me sitting in the front row...2nd to the right of the silver crutch...My group had 8 tickets back then, I'm the only one still kickin'...(HC b-baller Matty O'Connor was the leader of the group....)

Wow, how did I ever forget he had a jacket with "PONCE" on it! Reminds me of a Fouracre remark about Vicens that the PC police would eat him alive for nowadays "He just danced through the lane on that drive....just like they do on the streets of Ponce on a Saturday Night!"

All I know, and I'm sure about this, is that the legendary Curt Gowdy, who was broadcasting the game, called him George. And did it at least twice! I think “Kirk” (pet name my brothers & I used for him following the game) called him George the whole game. Also mispronounced Vicens as “Vin-cens” the whole game. Very annoying to this then 14 year old Crusader fan. I remember watching that game. I thought is was John Wooden, not Gowdy, who mispronounced Vicen's name. He also said that he had no idea that Vicens was that good a player.

For some unknown reason, I was trying to remember the Boston 6 the other day. In addition to inbounder Bill Collins, I believe Will Morrison is the other BC player in the photo and also a member of the Boston 6. BC also had Bob Carrington and I believe our own King Gaskins was another member. I am at a loss on the other two. Was there another Morrison who was a guard that played his college ball at UNH?

The other two guys were Carlton Smith (Boston English/URI) and Ron Lee (Lexington/Oregon/NBA).

A Holy Cross classmate of mine who attended Archbishop Williams HS with Carrington said that after Carrington signed with bc he showed up at school with (A) a new set of false teeth and (B) a baby blue Ford Mustang with "Smooth" license plates....
Carrington was outstanding, I particularly remember that if he got the ball on a fast break it was impossible to stop him from scoring

Just a random thought while going down the vicens/potter/perry memory lane is that I've always thought of that particular overlapping HC basketball talent/publicity string sort of continuing somewhat through Witts and finally ending with Chris Logan in 82/83. Basically 74/75 - 82/83. Having an older sibling and then myself at HC doubtlessly colored my perception - I really thought of HC as a northeast and sometimes national basketball power during those years. And they were. Of course there were later players and later successes but I just wasn't a MAAC or Patriot League fan after that and tuned out HC hoops as I moved away.

Sadly, your view of the situation is shared by the masses. Interestingly, HC had a pair of high school AA guards in their backcourt in the early 80's: Eddie Thurman from Lynn, Ma and Kevin Greaney from NYC. The former transferred from Wake Forest. I believe Chris Logan was just behind them and was one of the last all - NYC players recruited by HH.

Both are loyal followers of HC hoops.

The man who recruited the NYC players of that era was Dick Maloney, for whom the senior hoops award is deservedly. Named.
