Did you see Williams limp to the sideline, then to the locker room ? Should Gabby have been playing with a 14 point lead with 3 mins left ? Yes. UConn doctor and trainer both said there was no risk of further injury and she wanted to play. It is a fairly minor hip injury that she has played with all season. Hasn’t affected her play much. U Conn now has a 10-day break.

Madison Park must have had starters who did not play. From the Globe "East Bridgewater (17-5), seeded fifth in Division 3 South, was eliminated Sunday in a 52-33 loss to defending state champion Archbishop Williams. Madison Park, seeded 12th, finished 10-10. "The MIAA says East Bridgewater did not violate any rules."

More a statement of the general lack of talent and quality coaching on the the public girls side. In recent years, more and more often the most talented kids tend to end up in the private or Catholic schools. And yes, there are certainly exceptions to this, but it is increasingly the case.

No talent. A couple of the kids shown on film wouldn't be jv players at my daughter's high school; and her school is always struggling to get numbers at that level.
Vocational (like MP) girls programs tend to have participation disproportional to the number of girls enrolled- they'd rather work or their families do not encourage playing sports. Or both. Even though the school is very large it should probably be down a division.
And Williams has no business being in Division 3; that's at this point clueless on the part of the MIAA

MIAA arranges schools in divisions by enrollment..boys teams and girls teams can be in different divisions, and schools can opt to "play up" for a 3 year period I think, and then re-evaluate...

ABW should be "encouraged" to move up then. They are not on the same level as smaller public high schools. (no I have no school involved in any competition with them).

St. Peter-Marian and Holy Name in Worcester at various time played up while being much smaller than other schools in Division 1.
Back to UConn. I am of the belief that their run is bad for women's basketball. I don't know what you do about it....probably nothing but their dominance is to the point of ridiculousness.

UConn is a storm..Best coach and top players equal wins..I love so many of the things Geno preaches and teaches..Best one is if players are not involved in the game on the bench, he won't put them in....the staff evens goes as far as watching the bench during film work...You'll never see any players sulking during a game...

A further tangent into girl's high school basketball. Carondelet is a Catholic girls high school in Concord CA (East Bay). A traditional power, the school administrators ended the season after the team qualified for the regional playoffs. Carondelet is ranked 64th nationally by MaxPreps, 17th in CA ^^^"And on this night, March 2 at Saint Mary’s College [the WCC St. Mary's], daughter gave dad a reason to gush. She scored 28 points, grabbed eight rebounds and added four blocks and four assists in a 71-58 win over Heritage that clinched the Cougars’ 13th North Coast Section crown in 16 years." "Daughter" is a junior ranked 51st nationally. In the photo, one might mis-judge the daughter's height. She is 6' 3" Strikes me that HC should do more recruiting in CA, seeing that Carondelet is ranked #17 in CA. Eight of the top 20 schools in CA are Catholic. Didn't find a New England school in the Top 50 nationally..

I believe that we have UConn either next year or the year after on our schedule. This is total insanity!! HC women will learn nothing after getting slaughtered by 80 or 90 points. This program needs a new coach who does reasonable scheduling! Complete nonsense.

Carondelet is an excellent school. It is the sister school and share a campus with Football powerhouse De LaSalle.
Two schools that I wish we would have a higher number of students enrolled at HC.
From reviewing the HC rosters, I see there is a Volleyball player on the current HC team from Carondelet. Hope it is a start of a consistent recruiting to HC.

The basketball player I referenced above also plays water polo for Carondelet. I looked at the roster; the girl's water polo team is as tall as the basketball team. I would think water polo would be good aerobic training without killing the legs. Out of curiosity, I looked at the St. Mary's women's basketball roster. Perhaps not a surprise that there are five on the roster from Australia and New Zealand.. One from Carondelet. The St. Mary's women's team this year had three 1,000 point scorers: a senior from New Zealand, a junior from Australia, and a junior from St. Ignatius (San Francisco).

SPM played D1 this year. Lost to St. John's in tournament. Boys, not girls. Unless St. John's went co ed. I got off on the tangent of hs girls basketball because of a UConn-like rout at the hs level. Then again, we've had a lot of AAC mens hoop talk on this thread, understandably confusing. I promise to not comment further about hs sports inside of a college thread anyway.

And the SMC men's team has 6 Australians and 1 Latvian. At least HC could have told the Latvian it's a shorter plane ride and the weather's better than where he's from.
