The box score says 652 attended tonight's home playoff elimination game on a Saturday Night with decent weather for winter in New England. Does that qualify us for the Hockey East?

Apples and oranges. How many locals are RMU fans? How many locals could even tell you where RMU is? How many locals have even heard of RMU? HE fans travel to opponents games. Very well in some cases. Doubt many associated w/RMU beyond the official traveling party made the trip from Moon, PA. Not to mention hockey draws the most students of any sport on campus, and these students were not on campus.

Actually, 7:00 PM start times draw the most students on campus.
Start a hockey game at 1:00 and a basketball game at 7:00 on a few Saturdays and the student attendance would flip.

A 7pm hockey games draw a lot more students than 7pm basketball games. That is the point I'm making.

Friday or Saturday is my point ACTP. How many Friday or Saturday 7:00 PM basketball games have been held in the past 5 years?
Without looking it up - I'd say fewer than 3 - and possibly zero. And if it is more than zero - I'll bet all of them occurred in the non-conference season in the waning weeks of a semester when kids are caught up in end of semester stress and activities.

I'm of the school of thought that HC will be in Hockey East, I am not of the school of thought that HC will magically be competitive in hockey east. Sadly, I think sweeps will continue to be the norm

If you think students will consistently spend Friday and Saturday nights taking shuttle buses to and from the DCU Center, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. The only way that might happen with even some consistency is if there is cheap beer on sale.

Games vs BC, BU, UMass, etc. garner local interest, and fans of HE schools travel well to conference opponents games.
Local interest in the schools of the AHA? Virtually nil with the exception of the AFA and Army.

Anyone know where we can find the Berard Press conference from last night. Looks like our athletic web site is not interested in putting it up for public viewing. Sad

Berard just finished his fourth season at HC. Do we know what his contract is like?

One thought. I am not happy with the playoff performance under Berard. He's had some success in the regular season (but losing records in Atlantic Hockey won't get you anywhere) with a 1-1 record vs PC and Union but that doesn't compare with the out of conference wins by his predecessor.
That being said...if we go back 4 years, with Hockey East looming in the future...it makes sense to hire a Hockey East assistant to be our head coach. Recruiting has improved and I think some of the players skating for HC these last few years are probably better than even when I was at HC. Good preparation, but how about our late season conditioning? The in game coaching stinks. Berard talked about all the prep they put in during the bye week but it was no match for a hot RMU team. I think motivation, strategies, and actual in game coaching is lacking. Perhaps it is time for a new direction

The fact that we are consistently bad in the post-season and that we are generally awful in the second game of a series later in the season would at least suggest conditioning is an issue. I also wonder how motivated a team is that consistently underperforms in the playoffs. Berard has a very calm, almost passive, way about him. I think a college hockey team might need some occasional fire and brimstone. I don’t know wnough about the Xs and Os to have any idea about that.

As SOV previously pointed out, he also tweets locker room team celebration photos after every win, including a Friday night of a two-game series. The only other time I've seen a coach post pictures like that is when they win championships.

Two words....niche sport.....dump it. Dump Baseball...they have a home game scheduled on Sunday and we are getting another large snowstorm next week. When are they ever going to play a home game on a grass field? April 15th? What four games on their home field?
