Getting back to the title of the thread...
Hearing today that Holy Cross knew of the writings of Professor Liew before he was hired, hired him anyway and that he will chair the department during the upcoming school year!!!
Maybe others can verify what was heard today...

Maybe others can verify what was heard today... Reiser, who is chair, is teaching courses in the fall semester. That's not conclusive, but if he was listed as on sabbatical, etc., then it would be more likely that a new chair would be appointed.

From what I hear, being a department chair is an act of penance.

From what I hear, being a department chair is an act of penance. More than a few years ago, the office where I worked would bring in professors on their one year sabbatical. We considered it 'free labor', but the intent was to broaden their experience by letting them work in the 'real world'; rather than the insulated, ivy-covered tower. I'll always remember what one professor (he subsequently became president of his FBS conference school) said, 'politics in Washington couldn't hold a candle to university politics'. Course, he said this some time ago..

I have it on good authority that politics on college campuses is more than alive and well . . . . it is thriving.

Then, you're never going to get married.

Yeah, but if you don't have kids, it greatly reduces your chances of having grandkids and, trust me, that is probably the greatest joy in the world.

As I often say, if I knew my grandkids were going to be this much fun, I would have had them first!
It's only in jest, though. I have two daughters who are absolutely terrific (and they are both Holy Cross grads, too!).

We had a child when I was 48. I'll be one year short of a Purple Knight when she graduates college, God willing (both her graduating and me being around to see it). A fellow alum, class of 74, lives a few blocks away. He drastically one upped me. 65 years old, first child born a month ago!

That's what happens when you have rising tuitions, fewer jobs due to automation and outsourcing, and stagnant wages.

Dershowitz references Biblical proscriptions about incest. The Pope explicitly condemned crusaders who participated in the Fourth Crusade for having committed incest. Whattttt? After further research, the answer. The crusaders, in their sacking and pillaging of Constantinople were not above raping nuns of the Eastern rire. In the definitions of that era, that constituted spiritual incest which was a grave sin. An article from over a decade ago in a Jesuit magazine on the libidinous pursuits of the clergy in the 11th Century. www.americamagazine.org/issue/534/article/11th-century-scandal(As an aside, two popes are referenced in the America article. My ancestral first cousins, the de Hautevilles, imprisoned Leo IX, and effectively placed Nicholas II on the papal throne, after forcing the conclave-elected pope, Benedict X, to renounce the papacy.)

Might it be too much to ask that professors within our various departments -- and especially those dealing directly with Scripture -- write, speak, and treat our Lord and Savior with honor and respect. If academic freedom at Holy Cross means the liberty to demean, deride, and defame The One who gave his life so we could be saved, then why have values and a Mission Statement at all.
This sad situation strikes me as little more than another attempt by those in ivory towers to reconcile culture and faith along the same lines that our 30th president did. Fortunately his tenure was short lived. Feel free to call me whatever you want, but in my opinion allowing our Lord to be defiled is no way to lift high the Cross.
Let's Win!!

Yeah, but throwing batting practice, kicking a soccer ball, and teaching a neutral zone trap will be tough for guys turning 60.
