LaBarbera previously offered by HC last July who signed originally with Canisius, decommit due to Coaching change. twitter.com/averylabarberanegirlsrecruiting.com/high-school/friday-feature-avery-labarberaAvery LaBarbera, Harrison: The senior point guard averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game and led the Huskies to their first County Center and Section 1 finals appearances in program history. LaBarbera leaves Harrison as the program's all-time leader in points and assists.

Congratulations to Avery and the HC staff !--- I have followed Avery for a couple of years now and I can say that HC faithful will like her ALOT! -- VERY passionate gym rat type who will compete mightily every second she's out there.-- She'll give Patriot opponents fits with her array of talents on both ends of the court.-- I can't wait!

Thanks, bkny. From the article in HC13’s post above, here’s what Avery herself said while committed to Canisius in response to the same question I asked above:
In the end, why did you choose Canisius? I chose Canisius mostly because of the people. I’ve developed a bond with the coaching staff that is amazing and extremely rare. They are like family to me and I can’t imagine playing for anyone else. One of the assistant coaches, Coach Megan Shoniker recruited me since my freshman year and she was the one who got me to buy into her program and made me believe that I was the missing piece to their program. We connect on and off the court and I am extremely thankful for her. Also, Canisius is in the MAAC, which is a perfect conference for me. The majority of our away games are less than an hour from my house, which makes it easy for my family to come see me play and the level of play matches me perfectly

“An excellent point guard makes all the difference” to paraphrase Roy Hobbs in The Natural. Avery looks like she could make it a fun next 4 yrs. with her ballhandling, passing, shooting and spunk. Her game seems to resemble that of Anna Kinne, especially the energy. Welcome to HC, Avery.

I can see young Worcester area hoop girls taking a liking to the package that is Avery.

That's a total of 5 for this incoming frosh class, replacing the 5 graduates. We benefited twice with recruits who re-opened their recruiting after a coaching change. We will have a 15 woman roster again in 18-19 which is a lot of players, including only 2 seniors (which limits the next recruiting class of '19)
Not sure Gibbons was looking to add a 5th, but when this player showed up as available, I think he figured he had to grab her. Maybe he feels (like CBC) that he needs to get this thing turned around after so many disappointing seasons.

I'm aware of Demski, Ezemma, Petro and LaBarbera. I don't know of a 5th recruit. Who is it?

Could still have 2 available, depending on whether one or both Mazza & Pedi are PWO or scholarship

It was actually Westchester/Putnam POY. (Rockland has its own award.) It was won, not surprisingly, by junior Aubrey Griffin of Ossining, who averaged close to 30 ppg and 10 rpg in her return from an ACL tear that cost her her sophomore year.

Aubrey is the daughter of Seton Hall and NBAer Adrian Griffin and sister of CHSAA and state federation champ Stepinac’s senior Alan(going to Illinois) and freshman super star Adrian Jr.

Great handle, and she finishes with both hands! How tall is she? She reminds me of Veronica Jutras...
