This tape shows his complete game, inside, outside, mid range, puts it on the floor, passes, blocks. Presumably vs good comp Impressive. played about 10 mpg for Expressions Elite on the highly competitive EYBL. Minimum stats. Love to get an early commit www.hudl.com/profile/8503368/John-Adams

His offers are from UNH, Hartford, and Bryant, so HC might have a very good chance to land him if they decide they want him. He would be the second John Adams in the PL this decade.

I meant early for us since he would be our first verbal for ‘20.

He would be the second John Adams in the PL this decade. If he turns his HC degree into a political career, he could be the third John Adams from MA to be president

If we sign John Adams, we could also solve our mascot problem by having the guys with the muskets from Foxboro show up at our hoop games.

My favorite play is the pass he made at about the 2:15 mark of the video. Let's get this young man on board as a Crusader!!

According to his twitter account he holds three offers- Hartford, UNH and Bryant. if others, I don't see where he might have posted. He did retweet Pridgen's Commitment to HC twice, so perhaps there is a hook

Believe Adams and Pridgen were AAU teammates at one point.

Watched film and called a few AAU Coaches I know the staff is stretched but wondering why we have not offered. While I am not sure of the systems the staff has in mind, this kid is a potential mid major prospect, unless I am missing something which can be the case...

The big problem with highlight tapes is that you never see any weaknesses He is visiting. There is time for an offer. His current offers do not overwhelm. But he may be waiting for something bigger than HC and he may wait longer than we can afford to.

Understand your points on weaknesses and film, but his skills around the basket, his feet/movement at the low-mid level should have more than a passing interest for us.
Hope the visit goes well

While I am not sure of the systems the staff has in mind, this kid is a potential mid major prospect, unless I am missing something which can be the case... Adams just picked up a Navy offer. Of the 12 schools that he has visited or plans to visit, that leaves HC, Niagara, UMBC, Vermont, Boston U, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Army as the ones that have not extended offers. Two things that might give one pause: (1) He went about two months - from June 22nd until August 19th - without picking up any offers at all. That interval included all of the July recruiting period, when players are typically picking up a significant percentage of the total offers they will receive prior to the early November signing period. (2) He picked up his first two offers by September of his junior year, but then no offers at at all for nine months - through his entire junior HS season, through all of the April recruiting period, and through all of the June camp sessions. That suggests that there may have been no improvement and that the first two offers (Bryant and Hartford) were speculative in nature. It will be interesting to see what Nelson thinks.

Or it may reflect as I posted above that he did not get much time with Expressions Elite on the EYBL and thus could not be evaluated during either the spring or summer evaluation periods.

If he is a great player he would have different offers and quite likely not be visiting us, official or unofficial visit. Not sure how to evaluate him athletically based on film but that could create some reluctance for others to offer-more of a throw back, but again based on highlights, his size, toughness and skills around the bucket worth a shot and fits our needs
But then again not sure what other bigs they have on the radar

I think the coaches will offer a handful of guys they would be happy with and then see where we stand with those guys. If our prospects don’t look good with the first group, they’ll offer a few guys they’ve been keeping warm and so on until we get two commits. All of our coaches have been on the recruiting trail quite a few times so they know how to play the game. In Brett we trust.

Part of the recruiting process is self preservation and many recruit off the scouting sheets and go after the same kids as your opponent and the level above. The days of identifying and recruiting based on independent evaluations ended about 25 years ago. The kids like Adams, and he might not be the right example, are the sleepers that make a difference to a program and perfect for us to reestablish the program

Are you saying the coaches do not see the recruits play ? If so, I totally disagree

Post by efg72 on Aug 19, 2019 21:20:01 GMT -5
Of course they do that is why they all sit at the same games, compare notes and evaluate the same kids. There are 5 other games going on with talented players and few if any coaches are watching-there is a bit of a herd mentality

Not saying the approach is wrong, but will say some kids we could be recruiting slip through the cracks and develop elsewhere

Coaches leverage their relationships with HS and AAU coaches around the country to find the right kids. For all his faults, I felt like MB and staff did a very good job finding kids in the DMV and other areas who were a little below the radar but were very strong players for us (Malcolm and Malachi among others) or someone else (Kostecka being one example).

I agree with your points above and a perfect example of local/regional relationships would be Lowder and Wade. My point is it don't believe it happens as much as it could for mid and low majors.

I agree with your points above and a perfect example of local/regional relationships would be Lowder and Wade. My point is it don't believe it happens as much as it could for mid and low majors. Assistants at mid and low Majors probably don’t have the same electronic Rolodexes as assistants at bigger programs who tend to have more experience. Compiling a staff with diverse backgrounds and sets of relationships can definitely be a differentiator for a program.
