From the webcam today (Saturday), they are working and it appears they are trying to finish most of the excavation for the bottom level before next week. This level is largely buried, with windows only on the north side. It is sort of a half basement, as the ground floor level above it has a significantly larger area.
And HC is storing the excavated dirt on campus, for a future use that is speculative, at best. The college stored dirt from the new parking lot as well, piling it by the east end of Luth.

From the renderings, there is a small lot, probably 6-8 spaces, at the west end, about where the one story entrance / foyer to the field house used to be. I think this lot will be mainly for the campus police. No other parking. There is a plaza at the east end, which can be used for deliveries. but not for parking. Not clear from the renderings where/how trash will be collected.
I think they are working today because they may be closing the Upper Campus Road come Monday. I had thought the reconstruction of this road would be mostly near Hogan, but I am now of the view they will re-construct between Hogan and College. There are beaucoups pre-cast concrete manholes sitting on the site/, I'm guessing in the old days, the stormwater runoff simply drained down towed College St. No longer. Proper street drains and manholes to a sewer pipe will be installed.
I am surprised at how little ledge there was/is. The college must have leveled the slope of the hill with dirt (mostly clay) fill back in the 1940s for the old field house.

Construction projects are always interesting to me--love to see the way these buildings go up. Thanks, phreak for your expertise and insights on these projects.

This morning, they have closed off the Upper Campus Road between College St and Hogan. I assume this is for its reconstruction. ______________________________________________ I'm still lacking a floorplan, but as best as I can tell from four, quadrant renderings of the exterior, the two basketball courts are on the first floor running along the south side of the building, aligned east-west (the courts in the old field house were north south).
The elevated jogging track will be above the basketball courts, probably an oval 200' on its north and south segments, and 70-75 feet on the east and west segments, to obtain the 1/10th of a mile track. The track is cantilevered above the corner of the building on the southwest corner
The campus police offices are probably on the first floor, northwest corner.
Strength and conditioning equipment om the second floor, running the E-W length of the building and with a glass wall. The second floor is open (other than for the track) along the south side of the building. This allows half court heaves at the basket.
Other exercise rooms, e.g., yoga, cycle, etc. on the first floor below strength and conditioning.
On the ground floor, locker/equipment rooms for club sports. The ground floor, which runs along the north and NW sides of the building, does not extend to beneath the basketball courts, or to the NE corner of the building.

PPhreek - I was looking at the webcam this morning and in the small area, extreme forefront of the picture (separate from the rec center dig), there is some excavation going on - what's that all about ?

PPhreek - I was looking at the webcam this morning and in the small area, extreme forefront of the picture (separate from the rec center dig), there is some excavation going on - what's that all about ? I believe that is related to the reconstruction of the Upper Campus Road, and reconfiguring access to the loading docks at Hogan. They would want to finish the latter by mid-August. A few days ago, they slightly changed the field of view of the webcam, so one now sees only one tree stump in the 'island' where before there were two. There are still two stumps on the hill above Wheeler. goo.gl/maps/iUfpdHaiGEPJbDLh8^^^The two deciduous trees closest to the camera were cut down. goo.gl/maps/5SLACLVRRryCJaGq9^^^The two cut trees; the single shrub like tree in the island in the distance is long gone. goo.gl/maps/en9P6FZmFoGC2KFh6^^^The rather convoluted access to the Hogan loading dock(s). The deciduous tree nearest the camera has been cut. So I think they are planning to square off the road and 'ramp' to the loading dock at this point. Apparently all the beer consumed on campus is delivered here, and for beek trucks, this already was awkward to back in.

From the webam, the structural steel has begun arriving and the ironworkers will soon be busy.
They are laying a base course for future paving of the re-aligned Upper Campus Road. So as mentioned by another poster, a rough course of asphalt may indeed be in place by month's end.
IMO, use of the road will be restricted until construction is further along. The southeast corner of The Jo is flush against the re-aligned road, I expect at least one lane of the road will be needed for construction of this particular corner. From the renderings, the southwest corner is cantilevered, and also is close to the road.
The building is a polygon, not a rectangle, and the north-south axis appears to be significantly longer than what appears in the renderings.

I was searching for info on whether DiMeo is also the general contractor for the Center for Creativity and the Arts -- they are, indicating that HC had followed advice to have the same contractor build both buildings and save some money -- and came across an info blog by a Worcester trades union rep.
The rep listed major upcoming construction jobs in Greater Worcester, and noted that HC's general policy was to have construction contracts valued at more than $1 million be done with union labor.
The ironworkers on the construction site are probably from the Boston local, which has 3500 members. Same as for the operating engineer on the crane.
From the webcam, they seem to be very efficient and methodical.

The former guard shack outside of Hogan has a sign stating DiMeo Field Office.
It appears a lot of progress was made this week in site preparation of the Arts Center.

Quick look at the webcam this morning shows new pavement being rolled from in front of Hogan down to the new Rec Center. And from the looks of it, they appear ready to pave all the way out to College Street. Expect they want that gate open for the arrival of new Students a week from Saturday.

It looks like the island that divided the accesses to the south/up hill entrance side and the west side of Hogan has been paved over.

I am quite sure the realigned Upper Campus Road took a good chunk out of the north 'lawn; of the Jesuit residence. goo.gl/maps/fKzYbR6MGNde3tDVAThe southeast corner of The Jo is so close to the Upper Campus Road that I expect they will need bollards to protect the building. I think this south part of the edifice is home to the two basketball courts, and it is only one floor.
