After further review,
Public safety suite of offices is the northeast corner (nearest Wheeler), NOT the northwest corner.
The two courts are striped for basketball and other sports (tennis?).
The lower level, for which there is no floor plan, may be space for club sports and locker rooms.
A foldable divider separates multi purpose rooms 1 and 2.
The entrance on the east side leads to a control point for restricting access.

And as I have posted years ago, I remember HC scrimmaging Army under Bobby Knight in the fieldhouse which was supposed to be under game conditions with refs there but that didn’t stop him from screaming at his team and refs to stop and he would run out and physically move his players to where they should have been on the court. Our players and the refs were non-plussed while the Army players looked embarrassed about their coach. Second memory was of Donahue having our starting 5 practice bringing the ball up against 7 of our subs in prep for the vaunted UCLA full court press. Third, and most important was Father Hart showing me, my Dad (‘42) and my older brother the “new” fieldhouse when I couldn’t have been more than 5 years old. Not sure why that stuck with me along with being impressed with Wheeler. My Dad was one of the first residents of Wheeler and did a great India ink drawing while residing there. Fr. Hart was the priest who officiated at my parents’ wedding and sent them an anniversary postcard every year until he died in blue ink handwritten with the anniversary year in red ink. R.I.P., Fr. Hart Thanks for sharing. Fr Hart also officiated at our wedding and we got cards on a regular basis. He did have one complaint about Jack Donohue (a small one). He used to get the balls at the end of each hoop season to use for intramural hoops. Jack decided to keep the balls to use for his summer camp. Clearly Fr Hart found a source of funds rather quickly and his imtramurals continued without interruption.

Well, Rob, thanks for letting my post "age," like a fine wine before you responded. Congratulations to you for having Fr. Hart "seal the deal" for you and the Mrs.!

Since I am the keeper of my deceased parents' records, here is a sampling of a Fr. Hart missive for those posters who Fr. Hart is just a name on a building. My parents were married in September, 1945 which would have made this undated postcard written in 1960. Note Fr. Swords is named as the Jesuit rector before he became president.

Especially since Fr. Hart was the Fr. K of his time . . . . . and taking nothing away from Fr. K, Fr. Hart was at Holy Cross longer and was an alum. R.I.P. to both these special men who touched the lives of so many Crusaders.

Coming soon:
The Sept 10 meeting of the Worcester Conservation Commission has this item.
15. 1 College Street (aka College of the Holy Cross) (MBL 10-040-00001): Notice of Intent by the College of the Holy Cross (CC-2018-072) Project: To demolish the existing field house structure and construct a new recreation center, to re-configure the existing pedestrian and vehicular access, and to conduct related grading, paving, drainage, and site work
From the previous meeting minutes, I was unable to see what happened to the College's notice of intent for the 278 space parking lot on Freshman Field, which was on the Commission's agenda

I have it on good authority that the parking lot being created is not on Freshman Field but up by the Luth, replacing the spaces that will be lost when the PAC construction starts.
Don’t know what updates may emerge from the Presidents Council dinner last night, but I believe beginning of the PAC (and possibly the new Field House) is still predicated on achieving fund raising targets by the end of this year.

goo.gl/maps/C8nix3rPhQQ2A football field converted to a parking lot will hold about 175 cars (assuming 300 sq ft per car, which includes driving alleys, so if HC took the grass practice field, and found about 100 more spaces in the area that the construction workers parked, that would do it. The Google aerial reveals that too many students are parking on the upper campus. This really constrains attendance at the Hart. Fr. B. said that they needed $15 million by the end of the year to start concurrent construction of the PAC and the Student Recreation Center. Concurrent construction will result in a cost savings, amount not specified. I think he set the goal knowing that generous benefactors were reaching for their wallet/purse. The old adage of not setting a goal you can't possibly meet applies. Or like wagering that HC hoops will score 60 in a game when the team has scored 50 at the half.

my on campus sources tell me that they are being told not schedule the fieldhouse after Dec 1; demolition date?? If true, almost certainly a demolition start date. I checked my construction bid documents site, and there are no bid announcements. But the bidding may be restricted and by invitation, so this document source wouldn't have it.

chc8485 is right. From the webcam, fencing and barriers to minimize soil runoff in rainstorms has been installed in the open field north of Luth and opposite Figge. This was where construction workers would park their cars during Luth construction. This new parking lot is a sign that construction of the Rec Center and Center for Creative Arts will be starting soon.

The two important paragraphs from an e-mail sent to students last week from Michele Murray (Dean of Student) and Nate Pine. No mention of work on the PAC

Picking up on what CHC8485 posted, here is a bit more info on student recreation in the interim. www.holycross.edu/campus-life/recreation-and-fitness/recreation-and-wellness-facilitiesThe new parking lot would not be necessary to replace the loss of the few spaces currently proximate to the old field house; it will be needed to compensate for the loss of space south of the Easy St dorms when construction on the Center for the Creative Arts begins. From another look at the webcam, I would guess the parking lot construction will begin next week. Hazarding a guess, City View is likely to be open from College to the parking lots to the north of Hogan once demolition of the field house starts.

HC has shifted the view of the Luth webcam so it now shows the construction of the new parking lot. The caption says the lot is being built to allow for closure of other parking spaces nearer Easy St. . These other parking spaces will become the site of the Center for the Creative Arts.

WPI opened its new 50+M Sports and Recreation Center back in 2013. The 145,000-square-foot facility features a state-of-the-art fitness center, competition swimming pool, four-court gymnasium, indoor running track, rowing tanks, racquetball and squash courts, and aerobic studios. The building also contains offices of coaches and staff of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics and is home to the wrestling team. It is located next door to Harrington Auditorium, the 3,000 seat home to WPI men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams which also contains squash and racquetball courts and a wrestling practice room. Link: athletics.wpi.edu/facilities/SportsandRecreationCenter/index
With the entire Luth complex amenities, Holy Cross would not have a need for anything near the size of WPI's new facility.

Is it my understanding that the new rec center (old fieldhouse) will also begin demolition/construction this coming spring and be finished in the summer of 2021 (or is it on a faster timeline?)

Is it my understanding that the new rec center (old fieldhouse) will also begin demolition/construction this coming spring and be finished in the summer of 2021 (or is it on a faster timeline?) It is on a faster construction timeline, simpler building. I don't think you save much on construction costs if, in essence, one has two crews working on the same phase of construction, rather than seriatin; e.g., two crews excavating concurrently rather than one crew first excavating for the Recreation Center then moving on to excavate for the Arts Center.

I have and while there is ample parking, but cleaning up can at times be problematic. A lot of pristine shoreline was sacrificed to create a new home for "Coney Island Whitefish"
