And you couldn't buy season tickets. There was a waiting list When I became a student in the Fall of '81, Dean Wormer and I went down to the fieldhouse a half hour or so before tickets became available to students to get into the inevitable line. There was no line and we got the first two student tickets for the 81-82 season. Things fell fast after Perry Jr graduated. Yes, I started season tickets in the 74-75 season, last season in the Auditorium....About 326 people there opening night, jam packed by the end of the season..I new the Hart would open the next season, and wanted to get in on the ground floor! Been there ever since.... I was in Year 2 of grad school when the Hart Center opened. I had a friend who was still at HC; he didn't want season tickets so I had him buy me a pair. That year he graduated. I found out in August that almost all the tickets were gone. I was lucky to grab two behind the basket a couple rows up. Took a lot of string pulling for me to upgrade them; and I didn't have good seats full time until RP was gone.

Will they be auctioning off pieces of the Quonset Hut a la the Crusader scoreboards or do we just pull an Ebbetts Field and grab what we can?

I think the demolition company may save the old timber framing; those might have some value. ____________________ They have moved the construction trailer from where it was near the Hart entrance.

HC's student recreation website indicates that some exercise equipment used by students will be placed at a facility outside of Luth. I now assume the 'construction trailer' that I saw on the webcam is not for the general contractor, but rather for the 'exercise equipment'.

PPhreek, let us know when the bulldozers arrive at the old fieldhouse - wonder if the school will post pictures of the teardown

PPhreek, let us know when the bulldozers arrive at the old fieldhouse - wonder if the school will post pictures of the teardown I expect the college will have a webcam. The college shifted the view of the Luth construction webcam to the new parking lot. That Luth cam just barely has the field house roof in its field of view. There is no sign yet of construction fencing for the Creative Arts Center, nor of vehicles relying on City View St to get to the Hart, nor of a demolition crane. The college chose not to stripe the new parking lot, and it looks as if the final work on the lot (e.g., landscaping and curbs) will wait until spring.

I will speculate that the official groundbreaking -- purple shovels into half-frozen dirt -- will be the weekend of Jan 26-27. I think the BoT is also meeting this weekend.

Saturday's supposed to be a cold one, want to get as close to the Hart entrance as I can. One reason I used to like the men/women doubleheaders is you could show up an hour early, get a better space and not just sit there.

And in my near-daily webcam check (looking for those proverbial trucks) I have never seen any vehicles parked there.

I can personally confirm Phreek's observations as of last night. I was really hoping to park there for the game but all fenced off. Seems to be a waste of space right now. Fortunately, got there very early and got a great space despite the lot being full, apparently for some local kids doing something at LAC but they were all starting to leave and some good spaces opened up.
I suppose they want to stripe the lot even if it is a temporary design and use cheap paint in order to avoid parking chaos.

Also noticed that the island separating the 2 existing parking lots has been narrowed to allow a straightaway from City View entrance to McCarthy Way.
The new lots appear to need a final top coat, which may wait until the spring...
I expect that remaining/existing lots would get a new top coat after heavy construction vehicle traffic ceases.

I am surprised they haven't striped the lot, or even part of the lot. I assume the new lights work, but are not turned on.
Quite unusual to have surfaces largely bare of snow from mid-Dec until now in Worcester.
Two speculative explanations: (1) the asphalt paving is a base, and a top course of asphalt will be applied in spring. or, (2) they will not close off the parking lots to be sacrificed for the Creative Arts Center until spring, so there is not yet a significant loss of 'old' parking spaces..
See hc6774's observation posted just before I did re: (1).

I noticed last night that there was Exercise equipment showing in the window over the entrance to Luth...that is new, that area was basically open before, a few chairs there..That stuff may have come from the old fieldhouse?..

I noticed that too and mentioned it to my wife. Somehow the game made me forget that.

When they announced they were closing the field house, they indicated that they were moving equipment to various locations around campus for use by general student population. Luth was mentioned as one of those locations. When I saw the equipment last night, I assume that open space in the Mcfarland Atrium was one of the locations.

There is equipment dispersed within Luth, and to trailers outside. I believe the erg machines for the crew were moved to trailers and the erg space in Luth now has exercise equipment for students. I'll speculate that when they close off the roadway on both sides of the old field house and divert vehicles to the new City View entrance, that serious demolition wis about to start.

As of Wednesday, the standard entrance and exit were in place for upper campus. There is no way they will be allowing public cars that close to a construction site so a traffic pattern change has to happen first. As noted above, they have slightly widened Hogan Lot #2 and it is done at an angle to make a straighter shot from City View to McCarthy. Doesn't seem like a big deal but might improve traffic flow a bit during a heavy volume period (PL championship game next March)
I think the plan is to not line the new lot at all so it's a free for all and leave the web cam where it is. It will be entertaining to watch the havoc

As I was entering campus today, I noticed bulldozers outside the field house.
Time to take a last tour of nostalgia within the next week. Seems like demolition is Imminent.

I wonder if they'll sell a few bricks as souvenirs.
Funny how things from the past come rushing back from the recesses of one's mind.
The last practice in 1971-72, at the Field House; Jack D.'s last season. Jack had a rule about not dunking the ball, not unreasonable given that you couldn't do it in a game in those days. When Jack left the floor for the final time, Gene Doyle must have dunked the ball a dozen times in a row. And the way that basket was hung up there, I thought he was going to bring the thing down.

For all those who want to monitor our old home for intramural sports being leveled, they just added a 4th webcam which looks to be situated atop Hogan and points down on the fieldhouse.
