Thanks for the facts . . . . . I'm sticking with the Franciscans! Would that statement qualify as an "alternative fact?" Revisionist history! Neither the Franciscans nor the Dominicans were around when Friar Tuck was quaffing the local libation in the royal forest. As you surely recall, malevolent Prince John was a foe of the merry band, and John became king before the Franciscans or the Dominicans were established.

I have a set of CD’s of the 1950’s Robin Hood TV show - I’ve watched quite a few episodes but I don’t recall the good friar mentioning his order in any of them.....

That’s because Franciscans take a vow of silence. (I just made that up 😊).

Hugh de Neville was a benefactor of Waltham Abbey, and he is buried in the abbey. At that time, the abbey was Augustinian.
At the time of Hugh's death in 1224 -- Hugh hung around long enough to get his name on the Magna Carta -- Waltham Abbey had been known as the church of the Holy Cross for about 200 years, and the destination of pilgrims. (The church did not hold a relic of the 'True Cross.') King Harold, he who lost to William at Hastings, was supposedly cured of childhood paralysis after visiting the church. Harold became a great benefactor of the church as a result.
Hugh also went on the Third Crusade with Richard the Lionhearted, but that's really another story. I think his participation as a member of Richard's household had to do with Richard speaking no English, and Hugh being the liaison / point of contact / coordinator between Richard and his English subjects, including the band of knaves and ale-quaffing monk living in the royal forest. (Hugh was one of the few knights who fought with Richard to fight off a surprise attack by Saladin at Jaffa.).
What more need one say: an authentic crusader buried at the church of the Holy Cross.
