Saw this earlier. Great news for him. Shurmur definitely did not seem to be a fan in training camp but sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.

Really starting to hate Pat Shurmur. Giants sign former 1st round pick Corey Coleman and release Kalif. The curse will return and the Giants will continue to play awful football.

I hope I’m the only one still watching the Giants game but Pat Shurmur is the worst head coach in history.

I hope I’m the only one still watching the Giants game but Pat Shurmur is the worst head coach in history. He went for 2 down by 8 late in the 4th. Then the Falcons kicked a 56-yard field goal to go up 11. Then the Giants get 1st and goal from the 1 with under a minute left and no time outs and he runs it twice. Not with Saquon. With Eli. Then they finally throw it to Odell and score with :05 left. Brilliant.

Down by eight, going for two was the right decision.

NFL teams convert 2-pointers 48% of the time. If you score two touchdowns, here's the math: 48% chance of victory 27% chance of loss 25% chance of overtime Overall, a 60.5% chance of winning the game. Coaches don’t typically do this because they open themselves up to questioning when it doesn’t work out. With analytics becoming something that is being used more in football, you will see coaches go for two and go for it on 4th down more. The latter is already happening.

No idea what this means or why it tells us whether the Giants going for two down 8 with 5 minutes left is right or wrong.

If you’re kicking two extra points, you’re playing for overtime.
If you convert on the first two point conversion, then an extra point wins the game on the second touchdown.
If you miss the first two point conversion, you can still tie the game with the second attempt.
Overall, your percentage to win the game increases by going for two.
I’m sure Kentucky can help me out here.

Regardless of ferkakta analytics NO ONE can tell me that going for 2 with 3 mins left when kicking the XP would have put 'jints within 7 points was the right call.

If you’re kicking two extra points, you’re playing for overtime. Imo—the best choice

If you’re kicking two extra points, you’re playing for overtime. Imo—the best choice Let’s also remember the extra points are gimmes like they were several years ago, so that should be taken into consideration as well. Fans just aren’t accustomed to this way of thinking because it’s not done in the coaching community. That will change. It already is.

If you make the first two point conversion, you can win with a kicked XP when you make the second touchdown
If you miss the first two point conversion you still have the opportunity to tie by making the two point conversion when you score the second TD
EDIT: I typed this without looking at SOV's post---wanted to see if we had the same logic and it looks like we did. SOV's original post---the 60.5% chance of winning is very persuasive

Correct, but the % of 1 pt attempts has to be higher than making one 2 point attempt.

Correct, but the % of 1 pt attempts has to be higher than making one 2 point attempt. Let’s also factor in that OT is a 50/50 chance to win the football game. Going for two the first time around and converting it greatly increases your chances to win the football game. It’s just math.

You get within 7 first THEN decide to go for W or tie on next TD. If Shurmur does that he catches a lot less justified heat, and if he goes for 2 and doesn't convert gets to say at the post-game presser "we have one win, I'm not playing for OT". Fans and media are OK with that.
