Scary story and shocking video. However, the direction of this at AAU basketball seems misplaced. The story says that, "While both events may not be AAU sanctioned, the perception is reality." I don't believe we should we allow this to happen. Perception and reality are often different and to blend them can only make the situation worse, not better. However, that seems to be what is happening here. If the events were not AAU sanctioned, then charge the organizers who claimed they were with fraud.
This goes along with the story of a track meet organizer in NJ who created fake track and field events and even whole meets, complete with results, to get athletes he backed invited to major invitationals around the country based on fictional performances. The situation in recruiting is bad, no doubt about that. But I hope we can focus on reality and then base any perceptions (and actions) on that.

The AAU organization takes the safety and well-being of our athletes, coaches and officials very seriously. Any such behavior is never tolerated at licensed AAU events and, for those groups who fraudulently represent themselves as AAU, we will pursue all legal remedies.” |
