"[Pitino] has never authorized, tolerated, participated in, or otherwise condoned giving improper benefits to recruits or players, or to their families, especially as an inducement to have recruits join the University of Louisville men's basketball program," the lawsuit says.
What is the word in Godfather 2 to describe how many levels there were between Michael Corleone and someone who was going to do a hit for him? Buffers, I believe. Must be a lot of buffers for Pitino to think his suit-turned-arbitration has any chance of winning.

Rick returned to Louisville this weekend for the first time since he left after getting whacked by U of L. He was here for a book signing and, according to the article in today's print CJ, hundreds stood in line for multiple hours to get his autograph. When Rick walked into the Omni Hotel ballroom for a public interview with a CJ columnist "his appearance provoked a prolonged standing ovation". …...

Anyone who as ever seen a long term "name" released from prison to a crowd of "fans" who want a chance to meet him and even ask for autoaphics would not be shocked that Pitino has "followers" who would cheer an appearance. I am not in that number.

This should be interesting. As I understand it the pace is very different over there. Full practices on game days - not just a shoot around

His initial work at BU, Providence and Kentucky was nothing short of miraculous (Kentucky had no players when he got there). Even the Knicks had success for a while before his ego got in the way IIRC. A GM/President (see Celtics, Boston) or role model (especially at Louisville); well that would make him one out of three.

From today's Courier-Journal "Latest evidence in trial supports Pitino's claims"----a surveillance video from 2017 captures Christian Dawkins, apparently a bag man who paid the players the $$$ from the sneaker company, saying "Rick Pitino may be the only person who doesn't know what's going on. Like, Rick has no clue what's going on at his school. But most bigger guys, they know". The article goes on to say that Dawkins, "who was sentenced to six months in prison last month for wire fraud and conspiracy", contrasted Pitino's ignorance of the wrongdoing with the awareness of Sean Miller of Arizona "I can call Sean and have a conversation like, 'This is what's going on. Like, this is what's needing to be done'."

Certainly does not exonerate him If he did not know(still doubtful imo), he should have known. CEOs are responsible for their underlings. He could have told his assistants do what you have to do, just do not tell me.

He could have told his assistants do what you have to do, just do not tell me. I agree 100%--the whole idea of "institutional control" comes into play. Yes, he should have known. Key point on this latest development: this may give Pitino the "plausible deniability" that (1) helps him win his court case against U of L and (2) makes him palatable to another school looking for a coach to "take the program to the next level".
