I don't know who it was defending the play, but you can see highlights of the game from this Dartmouth season recap film.
Fast forward to about 3:10 to see the beginning of the Recap of the HC game. The failed two point conversion is just after the 5:00 minute mark. Based on description, I'd say Beaven 302 had it right.

Well, I guess it was another one of those phantom memories I've been having . . . . this one for about 50 years! However, I will stick to what is a fact. Tom Lamb could not have been the one to jar the ball loose.

Looks to me on that film as if the Dartmouth receiver bobbled and dropped the ball. Whether or not it was due to any contact by the HC defender, it is hard to tell. I have to defer to the eyewitnesses as I had gone home that Friday afternoon for the weekend and missed that great HC victory. Damn.

great video...I can't make out the number on our corner back [#21 Giardi?] but obviously not Lamb, ... it looks like the end never possessed the ball but juggled it across the goal line, when #43 [Kelly?] arrives from the inside and bats or kicks the ball back across the line, either before or after it hit the ground.

All I remember is seeing it apparently caught and then it was on the ground. The details and much of the game are blurred (probably because of that driving rain).
