Grandison was listed on NERR's best available face-up 4's and 5's still left for the 2017 class. "Jacob Grandison, Phillips Exeter – Grandison has had a strong post-graduate season for Exeter and is one of the main reasons why they are again in the hunt for the Class A title. He’s a multi-positional player, who has potential as both a stretch-four type as well as a big wing, and an intriguing combination of size and skill." www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/best-available-face-up-4s-5sHere are a few other quotes from article's that mention him. "McCoy (BU recruit) and Jacob Grandison both scored 20 points to account for nearly two thirds of their team's production. Grandison, who remains unsigned, earned MVP honors." www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/nepsac-champions-crowned-1From earlier in the year: "Phillips Exeter Academy – Exeter goes into break with a 2-2 record after getting their last two games at the Seacoast Classic snowed out. With two NEPSAC championships in the last five years, and another trip to the finals last year, the Big Red have proven they’re always among the contenders in Class A. This year’s squad may not have quite as much depth as we’ve seen in the past, but their first five is as good as anyone’s. Javante McCoy (Boston University) and Kyle Copeland (Holy Cross), both post-graduates, in addition to senior captain Mitchell Kirsch (Claremont McKenna) form one of the best backcourts in the league. Jacob Grandison, a post-graduate from Calfornia, and junior forward Ben Eckstrom will lead the way on the interior while Ben Swett, Brian Zhao and Emmett Shell should also see important rotation minutes. This team will need to stay healthy but possess a great equalizer in their ability to makes threes in bunches. www.newenglandrecruitingreport.com/news/nepsac-class-a-update-1

Welcome to HC, Jacob--you're now part of one of the most important, and hopefully most productive, recruit classes HC has had in a very long time.

Hope I'm wrong but I'm very disappointed we didn't go after a transfer to balance the class scales.

Risky selection but maybe a late bloomer. Gotta trust the staff here.

Lived in Worchester area in past and getting back into HC bball. Having watched the Bucknell/Leigh game the other night, appears that in comparison HC has a solid core group but a major drop off after the top 3-4. No star like Kempton of Leigh to overcome holes and weak bench. With graduation of Kempton, see HC winning most games against Leigh and majority of league. Several good athletes that are good, not great, at both offense or defense. Don't have a complete view of the upcoming recruiting class but appears to be more of the same-i.e. HC in top 50% of league but no where near Bucknell's level and depth.

Hope I'm wrong but I'm very disappointed we didn't go after a transfer to balance the class scales. to be honest, i also would have preferred a higher-caliber transfer for several reasons. i am always weary - no matter who the coach - about players with no other scholarship offers in this day and age of wide exposure for most good players. we saw where this sad reality of fcmb's poor recruiting brought us... he was rightfully fired, none of the players he brought to hc made first team all-pl (which is shockingly bad over five years and nearly 20 players!), and coach carm was left with very little talent to start his tenure. on the bright side, i suppose grandison adds another horse to the immediate stable. i obviously wish him the best and he gives us some more size and what sounds like a solid basketball skill set right away next year.

some criticize the imbalance of the classes some have criticized the imbalance of positions this move addresses that latter imbalance

I think the quote for me from this thread is this by naccm: "Gotta trust the staff here." HCBC and his coaches know what they need to make their plans succeed. I support their decision. Let's remember how FCMB was lambasted for bringing in Green. Then, a year ago, it was his play that was a key to a PL Championship. Those who have written players off (like CLS) after only one season may want to remember that a player has 4 years to contribute and to seemingly write them off as a "mistake" after one year may be a bit premature, to say the least.

Surprised we used 6th scholarship in this fashion, hopefully staff got it right. In any event this is our team for the next two seasons. CBC has certainly gone all in on this class and his success or failure will largely depend on their performance.

Do people really think that between Bill Carmody and Joe Scott, two guys with 25+ years DI head coach experience, they don't know what this roster needs to fit this system?

I'm certain they know what they need. The question is whether they've been able to get it. We'll all find out over the next couple of years.

HC92, That could be an important distinction, but I have to believe they did. We will, I believe, even see CLS making some important contributions by some time in his sophomore year, with more minutes as the year goes on.

Like you, I'm not writing off any of this year's frosh and sophs as we have seen many examples of guys who did little as underclassmen but were very productive as upperclassmen. We shall see. I compare next year's HC team to this year's Yankees (apologies to hchoops). I'm not expecting them to win but I am very excited to see the young guys develop.

As high as HC tuition may be, I think the budget of the Yankees far outstrips that of Holy Cross. I would hope NY has more and better talent for what they are paying. I do, however, have a similar feeling about the coming season. With many seniors (as was the case this year), each game's mandate seems to be "win now our else." However, with so many frosh and sophomores one can watch with anticipation of "better days ahead."
