I've been involved in "Bidding For Good" while doing my IVC volunteer work. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they would be auctioning off "Lazarus." The shipping is going to cost a heckuva lot more than the bids themselves.

Oh, by the way, if I make a winning bid, does anyone have a truck that I could borrow? An 18 wheeler, preferably. I just don't trust what HC would charge to ship my scoreboard "Lazarus."

YES!!! YES!!! I'm sure that with some modification my 2001 Ford F-150 could and would do the job!!! ! And if you do not have the room to store it, I would be delighted to store it under my solar panels for free until it can be restored/resurrected to its proper place at Holy Cross!!! ! PS: I'll even contribute to the bid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I am going to bid and hopefully it fits in my truck. I plan on bringing it to every home football game tailgate.

I am impressed with all this enthusiasm! And all I did was make up a couple of T-shirts!😂 (Disclaimer: I DID make a bid but was quickly outbid on the smallest sign).

Clever idea by them to raise some money.

Some bar owner should buy it and install it in the bar's parking lot--certain to attract Crusader fans --no need to chip in about how few of them remain

Hardly a money-maker. TPTB sound a little desperate in finding a way to reduce their losses by cutting the expense of taking all these down.
KY's got a great idea, especially for a local bar to attract Holy Cross folks. Breen's still around? Chuck's Steakhouse was (is?) owned by a couple of alums. O'Connor's?

Only 2 bars left in the city where you'll still find HC fans on the reg are Herbie's and Breen's.

I happen to be on the other side of this argument. They say that the mascot is offensive and demeaning, and all other types of bull#@*&$~!, but have no problem selling imagery of it off to the highest bidder. I hope they don't get a dime. Still a stupid decision. And if it was that offensive to people, the College should not want the school name associated with the image and being displayed anywhere. Sticking to their guns, they should burn or destroy them.
It goes to show you how it's not really offensive to TBTB, but only that their tin ears heard the opinions of the weak minded and acted reflexively.

Not sure whether to be angry or sad. Nonetheless, I hope some good comes out of it. Maybe we'll see it on the field for tailgates sometime soon. Maybe Rotman's will buy it and install it across the highway

I hope someone with the money and resources buys them all and puts them to good use out in the public eye somewhere near campus, not just as decoration in their man cave or barn or backyard or whatever. Isn't there some football museum or something along those lines that would want them? Maybe Carver or some other school with the Crusader mascot wants them and can paint them a different color. Is it just the knight or the lettering also?

For those keeping score at home, here's an updated status report on bids right now:
Fitton Football - $100 Fr. K - $0 Johnson Soccer - $0 Freshman Softball - $0 Baseball - $325 *
* This is the one that I put my one and done bid at $100 as I figured I might be able to transport it in '45's truck. I was quickly outbid as I suspect many are thinking as I did that this small one could be set up almost anywhere.
FWIW, I agree with WCHC's position. If this cognomen (thank you Tomahawk writers!) is so offensive, why don't they just have an old-fashioned Homecoming bonfire? (Hmmm, maybe not, they are probably metal).
I hope that TPTB thought this through and that the local chapter of ISIS doesn't outbid everyone and do something that we'll all regret.

Always an "interesting" discussion, no matter the topic, here on Crossports;)
Maybe they're auctioning them simply because they're afraid there would be an outcry from alumni if they destroyed them without offering them up first. In some areas, HC just can't win, no matter what they do. Yikes.
Cognomen - a great word - can't remember where I heard that but it comes in handy in the right situations.

1. Fr. Boroughs put himself in this situation, and an educated guess, Dan Kim (dis)ably assisted him. You either keep the Crusader cognomen or you totally get rid of it, including and especially the name. It is pretty hard to pi$$ off both sides or an argument (though I am usually pretty good at it) but by getting rid of the logo and keeping the name, Boroughs & Co. have done just that.
2. I suspect you are joshing here, but it was my post quoting the esteemed writers, all presumably deceased by now, of "The Tomahawk" student newspaper before it became "The Crusader" which was before it became "The Spires" (how uninspiring . . . and yes, that's a purposeful pun).

That's one of the reasons I didn't suggest Compass as I was guessing there might have been a "break-up" between Holy Cross and the Tavern since the Coaches show not there anymore. But, hey, if they are willing . . . . go for it!

We live in an era that incentivizes victimhood. I just wish they were offering the "Crusader Mascot" costume. I would pass it around to different teammates for each game and see who could evade security the longest.
