Maybe a bit crazy to start the season but the NCAA permits women's hockey to start this weekend (our men start in two weeks). Our ladies are at RIT tonight and tmro afternoon. It's an historic season as we begin D.1 with a full Hockey East schedule. We have a chance with these ooc games as RIT is not very strong. www.goholycross.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=33100&ATCLID=211773646

Interesting start time. In the ECAC and NEHC days we started in November.
We had a good number of shots on net but got killed in the faceoff circle. Took too many penalties but that happens against better opponents. Just followed the stats tonight. Hoping we have highlights soon.

A tough start to the season, getting shut out 0-2. Hopefully they can rally today in the second game.

1-1 tie yesterday. That’s ok for an opening weekend on the road. Used a frosh goalie in the game (and the sophomore ‘Pelletier’ Friday night)

That overtime tie is a step up...now for a win (possibly at Rensselaer?)
Rensselaer lost 2-0 to Minnesota State in their opener (and play a second game against them today0.

Both RPI and Minnesota State had abysmal years last year (RPI 9-19-6, Minn 5-28-1). Minnesota State has #5 Ohio State next weekend, so it will be interesting to see if the Mavericks have improved or if both are going to have lacklustre campaigns once again. I like our chances to at least split the series and earn an out of conference win.

Tomorrow's game is historic for the program - first Hockey East conference game. Big weekend coming up - at PC, at UConn. Best of luck to the team.

The women were overmatched. We battled in corners and blocked a ton of shots but couldn't keep hold of the puck. A few screens from our own defense. The fresh goalie started and performed, eh from the eye test. Lot of shots against. Uconn will be tough as well

We lost 5-0. Providence was picked to finish 4th in the preseason poll. We were picked to finish 10th out of 10.

Won't be any easier when the men join HE, right?

Maine smacked former conference for Sacred Heart 8-0 last night. I am surprised we didn't schedule any of the better NEWHA teams such as St. Anselm for non-conference games since they are now a full fledged D1 conference. While it hurts your strength of schedule it is not like we will be fighting for an at large tourney spot. Clearly some HE teams are taking advantage of the NEWHA! After playing two of the weaker teams in D1 in RIT (CHA) and RPI (Ecac), we only have Brown next weekend and Harvahd before Thanksgiving for non-conference games. Even a CHA team like Lindenwood would be a solid option. Then in a few years we start scheduling better non-conference opponents as our talent level permits. Good luck against an undefeated UConn team tonight!

No one else is on that level this year in Hockey East

No one else is on that level this year in Hockey East You are most definitely correct about Maine. My point is, if a team like Maine cleans up against our former conference opponent Sacred Heart, I envision they will also do well against HC this year. Maybe not 8-0 as our recruiting has been better than SHU these last 2-3 seasons. With our work ethic, we could make it close against some of the bottom teams this year, but I do wonder about why we don't have some more winnable non-conference tilts.
