Post/LIU has a pretty strong (albeit small scale) football history. I can see them doing OK in the NEC after a few years. And taking on Fordham and maybe even SBU some day in local football games. They'll be good each year in lax.

Stony Brook is already doing that.
(edit) Basically the indoor sports athletes will attend (or have to travel to, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense) LIU Brooklyn; the outdoor ones LIU Post...the exceptions being wrestling (Post), outdoor track (Bklyn) and softball (Bklyn).

Merrimack and LIU/Post going FCS and joining the NEC is not necessarily a good thing for HC and PL football. Not a catastrophe but it does send the message that the NEC is a thriving, growing, and improving football conference - - something that might be attractive to recruits weighing their options.

It does give recruits another option, but I am not sure it says much about the growth or strength of the NEC...at least not yet. Well for openers your average NEC stadium is at a Georgetown or Fordham level, or worse; never mind the other 5. I wouldn't think other facilities are better either. Let's not even get into academics, although that might actually favor the NEC because it can accept across a wider range of abilities. |
