The Worcester Club will be hosting a night with the basketball coaches on Monday Oct 29th at Chuck's Steakhouse in Auburn. As in the past there will be a $10 donation to help offset the cost of heavy apps. (pasta, meatballs, chicken tenders)

Yep. Gibbons is the entertainer, Carmody tends to give NAD sarcastic answers to his legitimate questions. I probably won't be able to make it this year but suspect there won't be any real "news" that anyone would be able to repeat in this semi-public forum. Greatest benefit is the interaction with other HC basketball faithful.

I've never been one to repeat private conversations, however, I think this forum is public enough that it isn't rude to forward comments made. Various posters traditionally report on what is said

Perhaps I miswrote. Didn't mean to say or imply people wouldn't post "news," just that Carmody, especially, holds his cards close to his vest and real information rarely comes out of these events. Gibbons has always been more forthcoming, IMHO. It is a gathering of the faithful more than anything else. If you disagree, Tom, NAD or others, perhaps you might want to post some past news that came out of these events that people didn't already know here? Wanna bet that after hearing Carmody, you'll get the impression that we'll be lucky to win a game all year? On the flip side, Gibbons will make you think we are PL favorites.

Both coaches usually give a sense of where the freshmen are. Who is likely to give meaningful minutes right away and who is more down the road.

Agree Gibbons does, not so much Carmody. Take good notes, Tom.

One last bump for any central New Englanders looking for a way to pre-game the Pats tonight

the total silence from the attendees last evening is a reflection on where this program has slid in recent years. With a pre-season POY in Manis, this team 'should' be improved over the last few losing seasons but I am not sure if many of us have faith that this squad and coaching staff can make it happen.
Anyone care to chime in with some of Gibbons' comments ?

Hard to assume anything from why people did not post on this thread. Perhaps it is secondary to the excitement generated by the young layers on the men's team. Perhaps it is from quiet confidence. I doubt that is that last point is the case, but is there really any way to know?

I think the women lost some fans when the double headers with men went away. It was exacerbated as the team records went from perreniel PL champions to mediocre.
Undoubtedly there are still some rabid fans of the ladies team but there are a lot fewer now. Historically these coaches nights brought out primarily the fans of the men’s team and regardless of whether it was RW, SK, MB or WC, the men’s coach always was the drawer and generated the most questions though BG was always much more willing to answer questions and personality-wise, always was better than his counterpart.

I'll try to relay a few things from last night. Unfortunately, it's tough because of my crappy recall and not being as familiar with the ladies roster.
BG made a point to tell us how disappointed he's been with the inconsistency from the last few years, and the inability to string together some wins going into league play. He noted they are staying away from the guarantee games this year; thinks it would make more sense next year when they have a large senior class. He said he's had a conversation or two with Geno A., but evidently nothing is official at this time.
He said he's trying to be low key about Manis being named pre-season POW; he felt it did a disservice to the Army player who was preseason POW (felt it kind of went to her head; he may have said he heard this from someone at Army). At any rate, he'd much rather have her be the end of season POW.
Only can remember a couple of comments I believe about incoming freshmen. The kid from RI, Ezemma, has a pretty high ceiling in BG;'s mind. Just in terms of athletic ability, he said she reminded her a bit of Raquel Scott. He was quick to point out that her hs competition in RI was not strong ("the best team is like the richest man in a poor house", or something like that). He sees a wee bit of Annie Kinne in his new PG Avery LaBarbera. Again, he himself admits he's a half glass full kind of guy.
As for this year, at this time he sees his team in a pack of teams behind Army, American and one more team that I am forgetting.
Oh - he's still not completely sold on the change to 4 quarters. He doesn't feel like it's speeded up the games, and noted that now they have 2 extra periods where they have to manage the end game effectively.

Thanks Dave, I'm sure the third team is Bucknell.

I'm sure one of them was Bucknell, but it's hard to believe Army would be in that category. They were middle-of-the-pack last year and graduated 6 of their top 8 players. Thel PL preseason poll picked them for 7th. The other likely team for a top three pick would be Loyola, who has four very talented players.

He said some other teams in the league tried it last season with success, so they decided to give it a try...He didn't mention it specifically, but perhaps the early start is to draw some of the younger crowd during the weekdays???
