Over two years to complete?

Over two years is probably about right given the interior finishes. It may take several months to fine tune the acoustics.
The March April start may reflect that they will first start with demolition and excavation of the field house, then move on to the Creative Arts Center.
Looking at the webcam this morning, it appears they may start blasting today or tomorrow. There is a small red truck on the site; it may be from the Worcester Fire Department.

Several months to fine tune the acoustics? Wow. Must be paid by the hour

How long did it take to finish the Sydney Opera House? Been there and believe I read later that it literally took decades to finish.

Not quite as long as the "Big Dig" in Boston, I believe.

Empire State Building?

Holy Cross can beat that timeframe! Hmm, maybe. Actually, you primed my memory pump, KY. I read that on a plaque in the Opera House. An outstanding building. While I didn't see her, Oprah was there at the same time and they had a big "O" in lights hanging from the Sydney bridge. I thought that was a "bit much" but I guess she belongs to the world.

A lot shorter, but you knew that. Helped that there was a Depression going on.

Then there's the Pentagon, with twice the square footage of the Empire State Building, which took just 16 months to complete.

But it is not nearly as aesthetically appealing as the Empire State, which is majestic, esp with the sun setting behind it in the summer.

I was at Luth yesterday, prep for blasting was in full swing. Considering the amount of ledge involved and sight lines, it is probably a parking lot, maybe terraced, not a garage. Hope there is no damage to the new Luth structures; a lot of new glass there.

The webcam that was on Luth was relocated from Figge to Hogan, and now overlooks the site of the future Center for the Arts and Creativity (CAC).
This afternoon, a parking lot on the CAC site is closed off and a geotechnical truck is doing drilling to investigate the ground beneath the asphalt. Usually this means that actual construction is some weeks away, but that may not be the case in this instance.

Re: Center For The Performing Arts. IMHO this facility is an important addition to the college. Wonderful! LoveHC Ludwig Van Beethoven agrees . Several years ago I was talking to an older fellow who had to retire early with health issues. His wife was also disabled. They lived in an older mobile home in a mobile home park in Auburn. Life was a struggle he told me but he made sure to take his wife out to the movies every weekend. It turned out they attended the Kimball Movie Theater at Holy Cross every weekend it was open, saw the movies for free and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I hope the new Center for Performing Arts also has many events that are free for the community.

Was told last week by the Advancement staff that they need $5M more before the shovels hit the ground. Their expectations are soon but not there yet.
