A sign if the times - this luncheon always brought together the player of the week and his coach - Well, that doesn't work any more with the evolving media and it sounds like very few were showing up. While looking at the Harvard site to read their take on tonight's game, I came across the release from Wednesday www.gocrimson.com/sports/fball/2018-19/releases/20181010kxwc78

Sad to see a tradition end, but if the coaches and players do not care enough to show up, IMO it is time for a major change.

Back in the day it meant more. Schools in the region used to play most all of their schedule against other New England colleges. Today, it is exactly opposite. The Cross only plays just five of its eleven games versus NE teams. For many others, it is even more pronounced - BC just two of twelve, UMass just two of twelve, UConn just two of twelve, UNH just three of eleven, Maine just three of eleven, Bryant three of eleven, Brown four of ten, Dartmouth four of ten, URI five of eleven, Harvard five of ten, Yale five of ten.

As we say on Crossports: "sad, so sad."

In 1966 we played 5 of 10 games vs NE teams, probably typical of those years. Were there eras when we played many more vs NE schools ?

I'd say from 1970-1985 or so we probably played 8 or 9 NE schools most years without looking...as rf1 noted, different world today in so many ways...with the technology today these types of meetings/luncheons have become anachronistic as well.
My brother brought up a good point this morning as well...how it probably is a hassle for the coaches/players to get to Boston and then get back for practice/classes etc

87, you weren't far off.
Lowest number of non-New England opponents in that timeframe was 1972, my senior year, with 5.
1970 and 1972 had 6 1971, 74, 75, 78, and 80 had 7. 1976, 77,79,83 and 85 had 8. 1982 and 1984 had 10!
Every year opponents were BC, Umass, Darmouth and UConn. Most frequent others were BU, Harvard and Brown; but there were years off (didn't realize HC didn't play the Crimson/Johnnies 5 years in that stretch). Then UNH, Yale, URI and Northeastern more or less in order of most appearances.
