One play from being the first HC team to beat both Yale and Harvard in the same year. Good comeback (with some help). Now 2 weeks to get ready to try to take the last 4. GO CROSS! BEAT LAFAYETTE!

The team played hard, but this game clearly demonstrated to me that we are being out-coached.

How do you not use time outs. Is he that confident that our offense is worthless? Holy crap at that forward progress play. Never seen a stand still like that in football. Awful awful awful.

Tough one to swallow for sure!!! We needed to make a first down or two to WIN.... Too conservative play calling and H knew that's what we would do.... Where was Peter O in the second half!!!! Coaches need to look in the mirror and ask some questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! !

A winnable game against a not-very-good Harvard team. They did everything possible to give us the game but we politely refused.
There were some very creative plays, including the 2 point conversion reverse and pass back to Wade. So, the coaches (Murphy & Chesney) are capable of drawing up some less-than-standard and expected plays. Think of the 2 on-side kicks earlier in the season. They just don't choose to use them with enough frequency.
Our DBs got victimized too many times especially freshman Smith and sophomore Hollomon.
OK, so they want to put all their chips on Wade, fine. But Oliver absolutely need to be on the field more because he is able to run north-south while we are too often running east-west.
So, my optimistic 6-5 prediction is out the window and my more realistic 5-6 prediction is in serious jeopardy.
Who was the coach who was criticized for not being able to win the close games?
I feel so badly for the players. You know this was one they really wanted to win and came close enough to taste it.

A pass might have helped instead of two, not particularly veiled, Cozier runs to the sidelines. There was simply too much time left to think that was going to kill off the clock. We needed, as you said, even one first down and two would have clinched it.

Crapola, we could have been 2-1 and contending for an Ivy League title. Oh, yeah, we're not in the IL. Might have been the first time in HC history to have beaten both Harvard and Yale in the same season. Would have been sooooo sweet.

I'm guessing he is; if so, another plus for him and wouldn't a two-back set be nice to throw at the defense on occasion.

The team played hard, but this game clearly demonstrated to me that we are being out-coached. It dawned on me tonight, what is Chesney really going to bring to the future of this program? Since he is not an Xs and O's guy or an "in-game" management guy, what purpose does he actually serve? Is he going to break down the barriers in the academic department regarding who we can accept? Is he a great recruiter for FCS caliber athletes? Does he help Scott James with defensive schematics? What are Chesney's strengths?

So sick of losing close games ( Yale was a great exception to the last 6-7 years ). The good news is that there are three winnable games left. Lafayette,Fordham and Georgetown. We need to win one of them. Going 1-10 and 0 - 6 in Patriot league play would be a disaster even for first year coach Bob..... ( I'am counting Lehigh as another defeat for sure. Let's hope that coach and the boys can scrap together an additional win before the end. Shame on Gilmore and Rock for leaving us in such bad shape.

Last night our coaching staff was worse then theirs. Even level on players generally (besides qb). Also Lehigh is very down and I would expect hc to win that game. How do you not call a TO after Harvard botched centering the ball (in more ways than 1). How does a Harvard receiver catch that long ball in double coverage with ball released as qb absolutely crushed. How

In the Telegram article this morning, Chesney talks about what a more experienced team might do in certain situations. Was he referring to the players or the doggone coaching staff!!
Harvard was giving you the game, you are up 31-30 and with 5 minutes left in decent field position you call three inside runs when the only sustained drive you had all night was based on hitting some 10-15 yard passes while moving the pocket occasionally. Are you kidding me?!!
Is Chesney Division 1 ready? This coaching staff has some big question marks in my view. Don’t let the score confuse anyone. It was exciting but our coaching is losing, not our players

I believe he was referring to the team (as he said) - both athletes and coaches. It is not always an either-or proposition...except for some posters.
The team is losing, why is it necessary to pick one scapegoat? I appreciate that the coaching staff is still proving itself. There used to be discussions about whether a coach got 3 or 5 years to show what he could do. Less than one season is hardly enough to know their potential and what we have.
I do wonder what his first losing season will do to his plans/attitude.

He said a more experienced team makes plays. That is not a reference to coaching. And what so called successful coach goes ultra conservative when he needs two first downs to win the doggone game that he had no business winning in the first place. Sorry - I would rather lose because we went for it rather than turtle. And he turtled!

It dawned on me as my head hit the pillow late last night (this morning, actually) that the Harvard game came from the same script as the Colgate game. Fall behind, in this case 9-0, and dig ourselves into a hole that was just a tiny bit too deep to recover from. We've actually fell behind every single team except Bucknell (who we still managed to lose to) but outside of Yale (and BC, of course), comebacks have fallen short.
Chesney & company simply got too conservative with the 1 point lead. I was hoping that if we could hold Harvard to a FG and get the ball back close enough that Ng would hit another game winning FG as time ran out. We gave them too much time and our DBs were not up to the challenge unfortunately.
Bob Chesney's streak of winning seasons as a head coach has ended. Welcome to Holy Cross, Bob.

Sorry - I would rather lose because we went for it rather than turtle. And he turtled! The ESPN+ announcers said that Chesney told them that the older players on the team were relatively inexperienced due to the enormous player class that graduated...and the way they recounted the conversation I also got the impression that Chesney may have also been alluding to last year's rotation being senior-centric (and perhaps opportunities to rotate in younger guys last year were missed...so a good number of this year's juniors and seniors are less experienced than he would like).

1-6 is not a shock (many crossporters predicted a 4-7 season) given the relative strength of our early scheduling and the fact we are rebuilding following a large graduating class and back-to-back 4-7 years.
The good news is we are heading to the very very soft (relatively) PL portion of our schedule and should pick up a few wins.
