My apologies to all the Red Sox fans here who thought this thread was about your team and not the Yankees and any part I might have played in derailing this subject.

Remember Charlie Finley changing the dimensions of right field in his ballpark to match Yankee Stadium. He called it the Pennant Porch. Because it was shorter than 330 feet he had to move it back, so it became the One Half Pennant Porch. The A's didn't get good until they moved to Oakland.

Yankees co-owner, Hal Steinbrenner stated that he was not happy with the "inconsistency" of the Yankees batting order and he thought that the Yankees starting pitching was"poor." He promised that improvements will be made in the off season. Improvements will be made that is unless the 21st century "evil empire" Boston Red Sox (4 WS titles. They seem to be an early in the century power house.) out bid the Yankees for new talent, although the Sox don't need a darned thing. Go Yankees? and, LoveHC They're an early in the century powerhouse every century, but they will never be evil

one potential move that the yanks blew big time was not signing carl yastrzemski. yaz grew up on a potato farm on long island. word has it that he was a yankee fan and wanted to sign with them. but the red sox offered a $500 signing bonus. the yanks refused to match it telling yaz that he would get his bonus each october playing in the world series. so yaz became a bosox. just imagine the yankee outfield: yaz in left, mantle in center, maris in right.
