It's time for our annual competition---to see who among us has the best handle on how well HC will do this coming season. Our first game is at the Hart Center on November 6 versus Sacred Heart.
HC went 12-19 last season as the team brought on board 6 freshmen and immediately pressed them into key roles. That class accounted for just over 50% of the team's minutes played and some of us see it as an outstanding recruiting class. We also saw the emergence of Jehyve Floyd as a dominating force at both ends of the court. Of course, we all hope that JF and those now-sophs all move forward in 2018-2019; if they do we should have a very successful season.
So, enough of my editorial, let's get to the predictions. I'm using the same choices as we used last year even though we have one more regular season game. Just to be clear, you are predicting the number of total wins, including the PL playoffs and any tournament games after that. It does make for better give-and-take, and sets one up for soul satisfying "I told you so's" if you break out your prediction by OOC, PL, PL tourney, Post-season, e.g.
5-7 OOC 12-6 PL 3-0 Pl tournament 1-1 NCAA tournament
21 wins total
Last year our 54 participants predicted as follows
23+ wins= 2 20-22= 4 17-19= 16 14-16= 14 11-13= 13 10 or fewer= 5
Also-- don't forget to weigh in on the "Most Improved Player" poll if that holds any interest for you.

I voted for 20-22 wins with the expectation the maturity and youth will garner success. Looking for a good season, good talent! Go Cross!!

A somewhat pessimistic 8-5 for OOC, similarly pessimistic 13-5 regular season in-conference, 2-1 PL tournament, 1-1 post-season tournament gets me to 24-12, but I'm really thinking they'll do better than that. 26(or27)-10?? 27-9? If we stay healthy, I see an exciting season on the horizon.

16, maybe 17 wins at most. Progress will be slow and steady so that next year a new, younger more energetic coach will take over a team primed to win a PL championship. LoveHC Ouchie! I'm looking forward to Carmody defending the championship next year with an impressive group of recruits

Barring unforeseen circumstances, i believe he will be the coach for next and following years. He may not be young, but he has plenty of energy.

He may not be young, but he has plenty of energy. Actually, I would be delighted if his team has a truly fine season and he continues to coach at HC. However,I will be very interested to see the reactions of some during the upcoming season. Will you still be in Coach Carmody's corner if the team has a15 or 16 win season? LoveHC It depends, if he is he has 12 wins going into the Patriot League Tournament then people will not be happy. But if he wins the tournament, with what ever number of wins, they will want him to stay. Wanted him gone, but his recruiting seems to have gotten better. Think his attitude has changed and hopefully he is successful.

Exactly whom those wins are against is key. He is a very good coach who has proven himself in strong academic schools. He has not won as many as we or he had hoped, though he did win a PLC. But he has recruited a strong soph class, two good freshman whom we signed late in the year, and now at least three incoming recruits who have been rated highly. The future is bright even if we win only 15 or 16 this season.

OOC 7-6 PL 12-6 PLT. 3-0 NCAA 0-1 Season 22-13
15-16 wins would be disappointing as I think Floyd is the most dominant player in the league and the supporting cast is strong enough to win the league.

The future is bright even if we win only 15 or 16 this season. An awfully low bar, given that everybody is back except one player whose absence you, among others, have suggested is addition by subtraction. If this team goes 15-18, I'm not sure he deserves any extension of his current contract which expires at the end of the '19-'20 season. We should all reasonably expect this group to win now.
I'm hopeful the 18-19 club will at least win more than it loses in conference play - if so, it will be the first time one of Carmody's team has done that since he left Princeton.

I and CBC also reasonably expect the team to win more than 15-16 games. But if they win only that amount, I will still back him as I believe that the team will be stronger next and subsequent seasons.
My WORST case scenario to retain CBC, NOT MY PREDICTION: OOC—3-10 PL—10-8 PLT—3-0 NCAA—0-1 (if we play a first round game—1-1. Then a 2-11 OOC) 16-19(20) with a PLC

Doesn't HC have 13 OOC games this year? You may be right-- I looked at KenPom's site which listed 12 OOC games.... Pomeroy doesn't list the final game at Mohegan Sun, since the opponent is not known at this point.

6-7 OOC
10-8 PL regular season (obviously not regular season champs, so no guarantee post season NIT)
2-1 PL tournament (not going all the way, which knocks out NCAA)
18-16 total
I've decided to ditch my usual optimism. I'd rather set the bar low and have the team clear it by a mile.

Hoops can't agree that team will be stronger next year without Floyd. This should be the year with Floyd leading the way and a now experienced sophomore class to back him up. While I do agree that next years incoming class looks good I'll take await and see approach on this years group as generally it's not a recipe for success to do your recruiting in April.
