I will start this thread early.
Against Colgate, Fordham had four first downs. 28 yards of total offense. Net passing yards were 78, net rushing yards were -50.

Let’s give them a good pounding so all our players can get some playing time!

While that would be nice, I would be fine with a one point win.

All time series record with Fordham:
Football: HC leads 28-25-2 Basketball: Fordham leads 39-41
If you recall, Fordham gave up football for awhile and a series record depends so much on the years you play. Fordham has refused to play us in basketball, ostensibly because they were in a superior league even though we beat them.
OK, you convinced me, let's win by a large margin next Saturday to make up for Yankee Stadium (yes, I was there) and because they won't play us in basketball.

Massey sees HC as the favorite in our next game. He predicts a 94% chance for an HC win (HC = 35 / FU = 13). Unless we become overconfident (and that is unlikely with these coaches), IMHO that is too conservative a score. We'll see.

So what exactly has happened at Fordham ?
Up until now they've been good thru several coaching changes. Is it injuries, bad luck in recruiting ?

Fordham has a pattern of being really good...talent drought (I'm going to guess admissions shutting the door)...then rebound. They're in a talent drought right now.

The momentum created by having scholarships before everyone else has worn off. Few studs and a good coach are gone. Fordham has come back to reality.

Wow ... well there's at least Fordham, NYBG, Bronx Zoo, and many of my doctors at Montefiore Medical Center, all not disgusting

NYC - and the Bronx specifically - is a disgusting, urine soaked cesspit? Actually, Applications to FU have boomed in recent years as Fordham has marketed itself as NYC's Jesuit University. NYC immodestly bills itself as "the world's greatest city" and "the capital of the world" and is a great draw for Columbia, NYU as well as FU among other schools and businesses. Obviously, you are not entirely familiar with the Bronx which apparently is doing quite well, although I do admit to a closer association with Manhattan, the glittering jewel in the crown. Oh and it appears that Amazon is locating half of its HQ2 in the NYC boro of Queens. Obviously, I love NYC and also I LoveHC No doubt Fordham is doing quite well and its reputation has never been better. Lincoln Center has become much more than just the law school's location. (Over 7,000 grads and undergrads attend school on the Lincoln Center Campus...at bit more than attend at the Rose Hill Campus...folks who haven't been paying attention to our Jesuit rival are often surprised at that.)
Edit: For those unfamiliar with NYC, Rose Hill is in the Bronx and Lincoln Center is in Manhattan.

The momentum created by having scholarships before everyone else has worn off. Few studs and a good coach are gone. Fordham has come back to reality. Nailed it with the coaching change. I dont think the the rest of the league "catching up" I terms of scholarships is the reason for the dropoff. The league really hasn't gotten better as a whole since going full scholarship. Fordham's teams from 2013 and 2014 would have annhialated anyone in the PL from 2016 thru 2018 minus this years Colgate squad. Back in the early Gilmore era, Fordham always had a reputation of getting the least off the most talent. Haven't watched Fordham this year or last (sans Edmunds) to really comment on the talent of individual players.

Alum - I have a family friend who recently chose Fordham over Notre Dame. Wish I heard more of those college choice stories involving Holy Cross.

While I don't claim any affinity for NYC, I also harbor no ill feeling. Nonetheless, I do believe that the City smells bad. It makes the alleys of the North End smell like they have been sprayed by air freshener.

Alum - I have a family friend who recently chose Fordham over Notre Dame. Wish I heard more of those college choice stories involving Holy Cross. And I have a family friend who chose HC over Nova, UConn, and some other state schools. He was considering engineering but was willing to put it aside because he was admitted into HC. I have expressed dissatisfaction with HC's marketing of itself in the past. One of my kids looked at Fordham for a while and I familiarized myself with it. They have substantial merit money available. That can be the deciding factor for many. The challenge is that once a school becomes dependent on discounting the cost of attendance in order to fight for students, the reduction in resources has to come from somewhere. It is a difficult balance. I also think that like it or not, kids want bigger schools today.

Hopefully we can build upon the momentum over the past few weeks. Great job by Murphy/Chesney in changing things up during the bye week!

It is a difficult balance. I also think that like it or not, kids want bigger schools today. I see a lot of kids applying BC - Fordham - Nova with a fairly even split once decisions are in. Fordham did offer one of my students a pretty generous merit aid package based on his National Merit Semifinalist (became a finalist) standing - I guess if you want the very top academic (NMSF/NMF) kids that sort of aid is persuasive. FWIW it was about 35K per year - I don't believe they offer much merit aid at all to non-NMSF/NMF. That particular kid also got into Georgetown and Columbia (he ultimately went to Columbia and their generous financial aid [v BC and Nova and Georgetown] was a factor). All three schools (BC - Fordham - Nova) seem to have that big city attraction so many kids like nowadays.
