Here is the Siena account of their win over Norfolk St:
UNCASVILLE, CT – Siena Basketball is headed to the Springfield Bracket Championship Game after fending off Norfolk State 61-58 at Mohegan Sun Arena in the Air Force Reserve Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off presented by Citi. Freshman Sloan Seymour led the way with 14 points and classmate Jalen Pickett added 12 highlighted by a pair of clutch threes down the stretch for the Saints which are off to the program's first 2-1 start in seven years.
Seymour and Pickett each made four threes apiece for Siena which connected for 11 more triples. The Saints have made 10 or more threes in each game so far this season, marking the first time the program has reached double figures in triples in three consecutive games since doing so in four straight from Jan. 15-25, 2001.
Pickett stuffed the stat sheet with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals for Siena which improved to 6-2 all-time vs. the MEAC. Evan Fisher chipped in 13 points for the Saints who were playing their first opponent from that conference in 19 years. Derrik Jamerson scored a game-high 15 points off the bench for Norfolk State (2-3) which was playing its fifth game in 10 days to open the season. Jordan Butler tallied 13 points and nine rebounds and Steven Whitley added 10 points for the Spartans which held a 32-10 advantage in points in the paint and a 14-2 margin in fast break scoring.
Trailing 47-46 midway through the second half, Siena reeled off eight straight points to reclaim the lead for good. Pickett capped the decisive spurt with consecutive highly contested shot clock buzzer beating threes –the second of which he hit from roughly 30-feet out – to give the Saints their biggest lead of the night at 54-47 with 8:17 to play.
Norfolk State rallied back within as close as a point in the final minute, and had a chance to potentially win it with just over two seconds left, but Whitley missed a contested fast break layup as Siena hung on. The Saints shot 48% in the second half while limiting the Spartans to just 36% shooting in the stanza, including only 1-10 from three.
Siena will face Holy Cross for the first of two meetings between the teams this season in the Springfield Bracket Championship Game Sunday at 11 a.m. The Crusaders defeated Stony Brook 84-70 earlier Friday night. The Saints and Holy Cross were already scheduled to meet on Dec. 22 in Worcester, as this will be the first time that Siena has played the same non-conference opponent twice in the same season since Purdue in 2013-14.
