Maine up 20-12 with 2:56 left. Game is wild. After Maine long run TD, they get assessed unsportsmanlike conduct and Weber takes the 15 yd penalty on the extra point rather than the kickoff and Maine misses the extra point.

First Weber play from scrimmage after kick off and pass is tipped and Maine intercepts deep in Weber territory. Maine doing the New England football proud.

1:23 left and Maine kicks FG (46 yarder) for 23-12 lead. Weber has no time outs left. Looks like a win for Maine.

Weber scores TD as time expires but loses to Maine 23-18 and no PAT, so that is final score. #7 Maine defeats #2 Weber State.
Let's see if Colgate can knock off #1.

Maine overcomes two, unbelievably stupid upsportsmanlike penalties in last 5 minutes. Their defense was solid. Game was played in the State of Weber.

Nice to see CAA Champion Maine in the 'final four". Not much else going on Friday night in terms of sports (IMHO) so I'm sure quite a few eyeballs tuned in to ESPN2 for the game.
Colgate at noon (ESPN) - will be a very tough one for the PL champs...need to keep it close in that wild setting. They've got the right attitude:
Hamilton, N.Y. -- The way Colgate linebacker T.J. Holl views it, getting a chance to visit North Dakota State in a FCS playoff quarterfinal on Saturday brings its own reward even before the first second ticks off the game clock. "We like to say when we get recruited and we come here, our staff likes to say that we come here to play against the best and to compete at the highest level,'' Holl said. "Now we get to go and play in one of the coolest atmospheres in college football against the defending champ. I don't know if could ask for much more than that. We're just very excited.''
PS: Go Army

1930? That was before my time. Heck, 1940 was before my time. Maine, by the way, was aided greatly by a lot of their interceptions. I watched the last 10 minutes or so and they had two but had 2-3 before that. I know they had at least 4 interceptions. Their winning TD came on a long rush that looked like it was stopped but their runner bounced outside and ran the sidelines for a TD but then got called for an alleged unsportsmanlike conduct which appeared to be nothing more than celebrating, pretty mildly considering the importance of his run. Did not see any Weber player near him that he might have taunted. Will be taping the Colgate game as I will be in Worcester for an even more important game against Cooley's PC Friars oops, URI Rams. [see the other thread to "get" this] - I'm awake now!

ESPN's Game Day Army-Navy coverage led right into the Colgate FCS Playoff game on ESPN . Don't get greater publicity than that. Colgate is living our football dream right now: Ran the table in the PL, Beat all of their regular season FCS opponents, first round FCS playoff bye, victory in round 2 at home, and off to compete v a national power on a deep playoff run.

And the good news is we were right with them in the final five minutes of our first game under a new coach.

Colgate will be the only legitimate obstacle (IMHO). (Colgate's current national football exposure right now --and their obvious quality right now - does not make that task any easier for us.)

They pretty much got the calls right (excessive celebration, or whatever you want to call it, was pretty cheesy, however; guy was penalized for spinning the ball after he scored)...but my word, those reviews were interminable. Maine ended up playing a colder weather game than they would have played in Orono, at least it appeared that way. Some anonymous donor paid for their band to make the trip. At least one administration of ours would have refused the gift.

NDSU is a great team that makes the FCS level work for them. Is it the location, or the lack of an obvious FBS league to join? Colgate is not playing badly. It’s just that ND State is that good.

35-0 is pretty accurate to show how this game was played. NDSU is impressive. Looks like another FCS title is soon to come.

Kinda both actually....too small for B1G or Big 12....MAC doesn't really work geographically....they are basically the King on the Island of Misfit Toys that is the FCS level. Dominating this level of football much like Wooden's UCLA hoop teams did in the 1960s and early 1970s.

NDSU is going to have to move up to FBS. It's a very awkward situation imo.....they've clearly outgrown the FCS-level but there is really almost nowhere for them to go.

I think you mean the Mountain West. That's the league with Boise, Fresno, Air Force, Wyoming, Colorado State and Nevada. Issue is that NDSU is a geographic outlier for either the MAC West or the MWC East. And no one is foaming at the mouth to add the Fargo market to their footprint. FWIW, the school doesn't seem to have taken any initiative to make the jump. They support the Bison like a major city supports their pro sports teams. They are in a football league with a number of major rivals and are enjoying being the Alabama of this level.

Watched the game and those posters who said that Colgate played well against a much superior team nailed it. Despite the 35-0 score, Colgate did not embarrass themselves but it was evident who the better team was. 'gate kept it relatively close, 14-0 through the first half but NDSU just played head and shoulders better.
