AU played like garbage defensively in the first half, letting Lehigh do whatever the hell they wanted. They didn't even make a lot of threes; they just drove past us at will and had a half-dozen layups off straight line drives, and led by 16 at the half. We finally showed up in the second half, playing outstanding, active defense and scoring 45 points, and cut the deficit to two with three minutes left before Jordan Cohen and Lance Tejada made some tough shots on consecutive possessions to hold us off.
Sa'eed: 26 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Someday this season, he'll be good enough to be named Patriot League Player of the Week. :-)

After tomorrow's Lehigh-Bucknell game every team in the league except the winner will have at least two losses. A third of the way through its shaping up as fascinating league season. Army and Navy are playing better than anticipated however it should be noted that Army started strong last year before losing 10 of their last 11games. Perceived upper echelon teams HC, BU, Colgate and American all have 3 losses already. Colgate has yet to win a road game losing to both Army and Navy. BU lost at home to Army. HC has lost a home game. American is probably in the best shape in that their losses were all on the road to perceived powers Bucknell, Lehigh and Colgate Unless Bucknell or Lehigh break from the pack it's hard to believe that the winner of the league will have less than 5 losses.

'fewer' than ...

Possum was probaby a math major, like yours truly. In my case "less than" doesn't sound so bad even if it's not grammatically correct. Or, one can cheat and put < instead!

My next-door neighbor (who has a lot of cats) spends her free time on various online forums correcting 'than' and 'then'. At least she is not a forum literalist (triumphantly pointing out exceptions to valid generalizations). Of course it is all I can do to restrain myself when somebody writes "in Long Island".

"hone in" versus "home in", farther and further, less and fewer, "scoring was lead by player X", amount versus number, "I should of", the list goes on and on

Nobody should lose to Lafayette.
Army - next up for Holy Cross - makes me very nervous. Their EFG was 50%+ for the third time in the last four games (all three of which they won) and they continue to take good care of the ball.

Was all set to argue the point, but...I can't. You're right. They're awful. And they outplayed us today at our place. They deserved to win. I would have been pissed off if we had stolen it in OT. I don't think it's good when you win a game you don't deserve. And the 4-12, 313th-ranked team in the country deserved the game today. We're back in play-in range, and right now, we deserve it.

Are they playing outdoors. Have flights into Boston today been cancelled? AU was scheduled to fly into Boston last night, after the game, to try and beat the weather. The flight(s) last night, as well as flights today, were cancelled; 470 flights into Logan Saturday and Sunday were cancelled. We looked into chartering a bus, but road conditions were too dangerous going north of Philly/New York. (The women's team was supposed to come back from Lehigh after the game Saturday, but was forced to stay there overnight.)

Probably a wise move. Here in RI, I just got an emergency robocall from local police that state route 37 that connects I-95 and I-295 is closed due to multiple accidents caused by earlier than expected black ice and they have been re-routing a lot of emergency services to handle the issues there with the assistance of the state police. They have asked for locals to stay off the road.
I can't imagine that Boston is any better.

American beats BU, 70-66. Sa'eed Nelson stuffs the stat line - 26 points, 6 assists, 5 steals, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks.

Sa'eed was incredible, again. He's second in the PL in scoring, first in steals, fourth in assists, 11th (!) in rebounding, and is shooting 71 percent from the line so far this year after shooting 56 percent as a freshman and 68 percent last year.
He has yet to win PL Player of the Week honors this season. So, yeah.

NJJ looks like he'll have competition from Kosrecka again 26/5/7 last night against Bucknell.

At this stage, an all-PL team of Mahoney, Nelson, Kostecka, Floyd, Sestina looks right. But there are no reps there from either Lehigh or Colgate, so one of those five (likely Floyd) is on the bubble.

NJJ, have to ask since I'm real curious: I've read a lot of your game recaps on your board. They are far and away the most detailed summaries I've ever read - what's your secret? Do you watch with pad and pen in hand, or are you related to Rain Man? When I attend a game in Worcester, I've usually forgotten about 90% of it by the time I make my 25 minute ride home, so I'm impressed!

Ha! Appreciate that. No secret, really. When Josh and Bill started our Message Board I just saw there wasn't much activity on game nights (unlike HC's!). It didn't look like there were many people participating in the game threads. I just started the recaps in hopes of having a starting point for talking about the game. So, I figured the more detailed, the more people would be interested. (And this started before the PL Network began, so there were a lot of folks that didn't actually see the games live. I'm not at every game but I do watch when I'm not in attendance.)
I don't write anything down; I just remember things I saw during the game and then go back and check them against the play by play sheets for times, etc. For example, if AU goes on a run, I don't know the exact sequence so I just check to see if it was a 10-2 run, or when a basket was scored, etc. Same for stats. Basketball is a flow game so the back and forth between teams is pretty easy to recall. But I do need help with the specifics.

Maybe some support for Rayman and/or Ivanauskas as well. Having said that, Burns missed last night's game with what is described as a lower leg injury. No word as to how serious it it.
