The 4-1 Eagles vs. 5-0 Minnesota.. The emptiness is the only sound.

Saw that. Pretty sad given the students are back on campus after Thanksgiving break. People just don't seem to care very much about BC hoops.

This shouldn't surprise you. Like every other school in MA- the opponent dictates the crowd. Conte will be full for Duke and UNC. Minnesota doesn't exactly move the needle.

The move to the ACC hurt BC basketball. Small price to pay for those huge ACC TV money checks.

BC basketball season tickets are sold solely to acquire (and in a lot of cases, sell for big bucks) seats for NC, Duke, Syracuse and whoever else is hot in that league in a given year. You'll see a lot of announced attendances there include sold seats. For example, we went to the Stony Brook game a couple years ago, there weren't 1,000 there but they announced somewhere in the 3k- 4k range.
gks is right in that there are several Big East teams that are good-but-not-great that would attract more interest/fans into Conte. Villanova vis-a-vis Duke and NC is pretty much a wash.

In terms of decisions on admissions and athletics, BC has run circles around HC.

In terms of decisions on admissions and athletics, BC has run circles around HC. And we had a half lap head start.

The 4-1 Eagles vs. 5-0 Minnesota.. The emptiness is the only sound. Is a half empty Conte Forum featuring a school like Minnesota worse than a totally empty Hart Center featuring Lehigh?

Exaggerate much?
If a Big 10 opponent can't draw fans, and BC doesn't seem to have any for their own team if your argument is true, then don't worry about anyone coming to see HC future games.
Just for clarification, has there ever been a Holy Cross game at the Hart where the stands were "totally empty?" I doubt it.

BC has never really drawn well for hoop...personally I can go back to the early/mid 70s and though HC games at the Roberts Centah were usually banged out, very few others were. Always been more of a "hockey school" (in the Wintah anyway)....

Providence got one of their lowest crowds in recent years last night. Just 4,879 in attendance for FDU in a later than normal start weeknight game at the 12,410 seat DDC. Of course, FDU is not a Big Ten team and the Friars are averaging 6,782 YTD through four home games versus no big draw opponents. PC's next game versus URI on Saturday will likely be a near sellout increasing their YTD season average to near 8,000 with it likely to increase by even more as the Big East schedule is played. It will be interesting to see what crowd comes out to Conte next Tuesday when BC hosts PC.

What's their debt? My guess is financial picture ain't what you think it is. $1.1 billion. (HC $154 million) $44 million in interest payments last year (HC $6.6 million in interest).. BC has about 5x as many students, so BC's debt and interest payment on a per student basis are significantly higher.

Of course they are. I know it doesn't fit NHTs narrative, but BC ain't in the kind of shape many think it is.

BC = Hockey & Football, I think. Even, the great Bob Cousy as much as it wounded me to see him coach the Eagles, couldn't build a great, long lasting program at BC and he left BC in disgust with the obscene demands of recruiting in big time college basketball. (He should have succeeded his friend Frank Oftring at HC, instead of coaching at BC.) Please feel free to jump in and make corrections. LoveHC Speaking of Frank Oftring, his grandson plays for Babson, a junior; saw some playing time on their national championship team 2 years ago.

BC drew a season high 5,453 (which included many Friar fans) for its game with PC on Tuesday. This number is considered very good for the Eagles as they drew just 3,410 for their last contest with Sacred Heart and only 4,389 for Big Ten member Minnesota.
Just 2,257 at the Mullins the other night to see UMass fall to Holy Cross. UMass is averaging just 2,429 through seven games. Every game thus far has been in the 2,000 range.
UConn crowds have had big fluctuations with 5,507 in Storrs for UMass-Lowell and 14,603 in Hartford for Arizona.
URI has had very consistent numbers in averaging 5,087 for a not so stellar opponent slate. PC is averaging 8,025 helped by a home sellout 12,997 for the rivalry game with URI.
