Taken in the third round of the AAF QB draft. Pretty stiff competition though. First round pick was Aaron Murray, Second round Matt Sims

What is "the AAF QB draft"? Alliance of American Football - the new spring league starting a week after the Super Bowl. They had a three round draft of QB's. Pujals was drafted in the third round by the Atlanta franchise. There are eight teams- coaches in parentheses: San Diego Fleet (Mike Martz), Atlanta Legends (Brad Childress), Memphis Express (Mike Singletary), San Antonio Commanders (Mike Riley), Birmingham Iron (Tim Lewis), Arizona Hotshots (Rick Neuheisel), Orlando Apollos (Steve Spurrier), Salt Lake Stallions (Dennis Erickson). With the exception of Salt Lake, February and March weather shouldn't be a problem.

Salt Lake City itself is surprisingly not that snowy. Weather shouldn't be an issue.
Christian Hackenburg was among the names drafted ahead of Pujals.
There is also a strange tweak to the draft where franchises have the right to "protect" QBs who graduated from a college local to their city.

Childress was there for one practice and at the end, just got in his car and drove away.

Jen Welter is the most annoying, self promoting/attention seeking human being in the sport of football. If she was my "coach" on defense, I think I would leave after the first practice as well. She spent two weeks as a volunteer assistant at an NFL training camp in 2015 and equates herself as a female Walter Camp. She prefers people to call her "Dr. Jen Welter", however, her "doctorate" came from Capella University (Online accreditation, similar to ITT Tech). It's actually pretty ridiculous: www.jenwelter.comAside from that, I am pumped for Peter Pujals/Nick McBeath and really hope it helps them forward. There is definitely a void this time of year and hope the league works out.

I hope medical staff are stationed at all practices … for Steve Spurrier and Mike Martz.

Not just Childress, but apparently OC Michael Vick has also already bailed.

Former Georgia and Chiefs QB Aaron Murray looks to be the starter. Matt Simms is also on the roster. Will be interesting to see if PP dresses. Not sure what the AAF rules are in that regard.

Coverage of the AAF isn’t exactly robust but I did find a couple of game articles that said Matt Simms started at QB and finished 15-for-28 (or 12-28 according to another article) for 126 yards and 2 interceptions (the second of which was a pick six). Another article said the Legends threw three picks so maybe Murray (or Peter) played in mop-up duty. The Legends lost 40-6 so they should be looking to make some changes before the next game.

How much do guys get paid in the AAF? There have been multiple articles saying the standard is a non-guaranteed 3 years and $250K with the salary increasing from $70K to $80K to $100K over the three years. Additional money possible through bonuses.

What happened to Nick McBeath? He didn't make the cut in the AAF?

Third string QB may have a better chance of playing on an 0-3 team than a 3-0 team.

Legends won yesterday. Aaron Murray replaced Matt Simms at QB after Simms was injured. Don’t know nature/severity of Simms’ injury.

Pujals replaced Aaron Murray in a blowout loss two weeks ago. He was 4-6 for 17 yards with no TDs or INTs.

Hearing this league may not make it much longah...something about the NFL not allowing them certain things etc....as well as the usual suspects: low attendance, low TV ratings

The AAF wanted to be able to sign players on NFL contracts such as the one that Kalif Raymond has with the Titans, in order to be a true developmental league for the NFL. When that was blocked, the league's fate was sealed (unless they get another bailout now)
