Rather than clutter the HE/ECAC thread in M/W ice hockey, below is the data supporting HC's high ranking.
School (U/G enrollment) total operating expenses / instruction expenses / athletics expenses / athletics expenses as a percentage of total operating expenses
Wofford (1650) 59.2 / 18.4 / 14.4 / 24.3 percent (2014 financial data; in 2015, athletics spending was $17.0)
Furman (2700) 140.8 / 57.3 / 25.9 / 18.4 percent
Holy Cross (2850) 165.9 / 62.3 / 25.7 / 15.5 percent
Colgate (2850) 179.3 / 72.5 / 23.1 / 12.9 percent
Lafayette (2450) 152.6 / 60.4 / 18.4 / 12.0 percent
Sacred Heart (3400) 146.7 / 50.3 / 16.3 / 11.1 percent -- N.B. all data are 2013
Davidson (1800) 121.6 / 51.6 / 13.3 / 11.0 percent
Richmond (3000) 261.0 / 83.5 / 27.0 / 10.3 percent
Villanova (6550) 377.5 / NA / 37.5 / 9.9 percent
Marist (4900) 168.6 / 67.3 / 13.4 / 7.9 percent
Lehigh, Fordham, and Georgetown will all have much lower percentages than other PL football schools.
If there are other schools you wish to see comparisons made, let me know. However, a recent financial statement for the institution must be publicly available.
Given Wofford's and Furman's setting out athletics revenue (generated revenue, and would include contributions from alumni to athletic funds) I think it a fair proposition that generated revenue at the schools above runs between 10-15 percent of total athletics expenses. (Villanova would be an exception.)
Note: HC's U/G number was jacked up a bit, as HC apparently doesn't count enrolled students who are studying internationally.
