Just got home, solid win by HC..the D gave UMass problems all night long, they didn't get good looks or shots they wanted..UMass failed to defend HC for entire possesions and HC got open shots all night long. Caleb was outstanding, all over the court..This was a solid team win! UMass usually plays M2M, tonight they played a lot more zone. On to URI....
I listened to the UMass post game show on the way back..Their coach was very impressed with the way HC played D and didn't allow UMass to get good shots. Plus he was impressed at the HC offense, good ball movement, player movement. He said HC is a quality team....Nice to hear!

Nice trip up to Amherst, and a better ride home with a W!! Received a bunch of calls after people saw me on tv. This team is good. I got nervous down ten in the first half, but the boys never lost their poise, and adjusted. A team effort all around, but Caleb is becoming my pick for most improved. Handles the ball, defends, shoots well, and can shoot foul shots under pressure - what’s not to like!? Enjoy the ride, it’s going to be a fun year.

Just watched the last minute of the game on replay. Have to agree with 81 that Caleb is the most improved player but Grandy and Jehyve not far behind. The fact that all 3 have improved tremendously is why this team is 6-3. Who wooda thought? Oh, yeah, 81. If you watch the game on replay, his 15 minutes seconds of fame is with 13.1 seconds left in the game.

Even with Man Mountain Dean in the post, we outscored them in the paint, 32-24

Green played well, still not shooting well beyond the arc. So watch out when he finds the range.
Can someone please explain what JG was doing on the offense side when CG grabbed the defensive long rebound, made the pass to JG, near the bench and he connected with AB for a layup. Didn't come down to play defense.

Iona game is listed for ESPN+. Worth it for $4.99. Just make a new ESPN account, thats what I did for the first two games after the Free trial expired to get a new Free trial. That’ll work to. Learned my lesson about the subscriptions a few years back when I forgot/didn’t realize I had to cancel after a football game and was basically paying monthly for a year or so.

Very impressive win last night, played well in all phases of the game. Offense flowed smoothly all night, defense made UMass work hard for their baskets except for the times they were able to get it to Holloway in the paint, competed hard on the boards limiting them to 8 2nd chance points. Floyd really came to life in the 2nd half while Green and Grandison were great throughout. Niego certainly made the most of his 11 minutes while Faw, Butler and Benzan were solid. I wanted one of the two games this week but now have a feeling we're going to get both. Set up nicely for a great OOC record if we continue to play this way.

I liked Carmody bringing in Niego a little bit when Holloway was in there. Against Jehyve, he was just sitting back in the low post making it difficult to run our offense. When Niego was in there, he had to defend out to the three point line which was a much different look. Then Jehyve started using his quickness and taking it to the basket and that was all she wrote.

From a UMass standpoint, it's a shame Holloway isn't in better shape; seems like they could be a lot better if he could play 28-30 minutes a game. JF probably sensed he was gassed when he went for that running hook late in the second half.

Green played well, still not shooting well beyond the arc. So watch out when he finds the range. Fun fact that I haven't seen posted here yet: Caleb Green is shooting 95.5% from the free throw line this year.
With Grandy shooting 82%, Coach Carmody has some nice choices as to who shoots the technicals going forward.
Especially after last night's performance, I think PB is a distant third choice.

Nice win! We're looking much better than mid-pack PL IMHO. Made the cost of ESPN+ worth it for a miser like me. (I like the fact it is month-to-month...I'll cancel when our season is over...or at least until the networks pick up our NCAA tournament games)

Yeah, the last and next to last times Holloway was in the game he didn't do much at all, in fact, probably helped HC. Before that there were stretches where the big pachyderm was killing the Saders.

Providence beating BC by 3 with 3:21 minutes to go Ah. college basketball! BC allows a 3 point attempt with under 5 seconds to go; it ties the game and PC wins in OT. Doesn't happen with the pros, the kid gets fouled well before the shot attempt.

JF probably sensed he was gassed when he went for that running hook late in the second half. In 9 games this year he has played 21 minutes once and 22 minutes once--all other games he has played less than 20 minutes. He has some problems with fouls but in 6 of those games he had fewer than 4 PF's

As to Holloway's size - listed at 6'11" and 310 lbs. I'm guessing UMass bought a slenderizer from the same company that sold HC their elongator!

It was hard for me to see how Holloway, because he is so big (wide), does not foul on most plays. It appeared on most replays on the big screen that every time he goes up with the ball, one of our guys would go sideways.
Niego 9 points in 11 minutes was very impressive with the nicest little jump shot that I have seen in a long time. He could be fun to watch.
UMass 12 made foul in first half, HC 0

Not sure if it's just me, but I still want to see even more touches for JF in the paint to further exploit his ability to make low post moves and intimidate other teams. I'd also like to see him take it to the hole more, from the foul line and closer. However, it's also good that he's such a disciplined, efficient, unselfish offensive player, also a great passer, so far be it for me to sound critical, particularly as we rack up Ws. This may just be what Carm is asking him to do in the PO, and he is executing to perfection.

But I think the team consensus is there's an offensive foul waiting to happen, so better to pass off and get it down low
