Not sure if it's just me, but I still want to see even more touches for JF in the paint to further exploit his ability to make low post moves and intimidate other teams. I'd also like to see him take it to the hole more, from the foul line and closer. However, it's also good that he's such a disciplined, efficient, unselfish offensive player, also a great passer, so far be it for me to sound critical, particularly as we rack up Ws. This may just be what Carm is asking him to do in the PO, and he is executing to perfection. Watching Jehyve at the top of the key, you know he wants to drive to hoop. But I think the team consensus is there's an offensive foul waiting to happen, so better to pass off and get it down low
Yes, but it's partly a self-fulfilling prophecy. Because he is not a threat to shoot and seldom drives, but is a threat to make a back door pass, the defender plays off of him, clogging the lanes, so that he really can't do much more in most cases than act as a waypoint for reversing the ball. If the defense is in M2M and him playing close, it's a little different, but I don't think we've seen opponents do that much, for the above reasons. It will be fun to watch his game develop in the NBA. For now, feed the beast in the paint.

Totally agree, if he is truly 6'11" and he looked every inch of that, if he is only 310 lbs, then I weigh a svelt 165 - and that's not even close.
He does have amazing moves for a guy that huge and I was pleased every time I saw him on the bench.
A VERY good win but let's put this in perspective. You are never as good as you think you are or as bad as you think you are. Weren't we similarly psyched when Milan's team knocked off then #25 Harvard? The difference here is we can see the maturation, development of almost the entire team which is still young with the exception of JF and PB.
Could be be a special year and I will feel that is a lot closer to reality if we knock off URI.

Mohegan Sun types Against the spread HC flew well under the radar, not only with posters here, but with Vegas books. Only a few knew HC's potential this year, and the only game they didn't cover was Harvard.

More on Holloway--to show the effect he has on the game in the limited time he is on the floor
23 points/40 minutes 16 rebounds/40 3.3 blocks
pretty impressive

From watching the game on NESN+ and a quick review of the stats....it bothers and worries me that we let UMass get way too many offensive rebounds... they got 12 and we were fortunate they did not score off those as much as they could have.....and we did not score a field goal in the last 4 minutes. Free throw shooting came through but to put teams away, we will need to find the will to score from the field down the stretch.
All that said, this team has nothing but upside....looking forward to seeing them get better each week during the rest of the season.

Albany got 14, FDU 13, Stony Brook 11 . . . won them all. Holy Cross is getting less than 2/3 of the available boards at the defensive end, the worst performance by an HC team in at least 20 years.
We are playing with fire here, for sure, but haven't got burned much.

What to make of this guy from the UMass message board?

Tough night and it was one of those games you’d like to have back. You could sense Holy Cross was going to grind it out and Bill Carmody was trying to keep game close. Matt McCall his staff and players all want to win and please the fans as much as anyone, but sometimes it not your night and tonight was one of those games. Support these kids they are representing the University and want to do well hopefully they will turn things around. They obviously have ability and need to learn how to play together. They need to know the history of NE basketball and how teams like UConn, URI, BC, Providence, Harvard and Holy Cross have been rivals since the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. UMass program was built on those rivalry’s and finally UMass arrived when we beat those rivals regularly. BC and Holy Cross didn’t appreciate it when we beat them and always thought they were better then us. They still all have that superiority complex that has endured for decades.

Would it prove his point if I corrected his grammar "better than we". It's OK, I didn't attend HC and my wife is a UMass grad.

Well the history is HC 37 UMass 22...and that’s with UMass winning 5 of the last 6. Series wouldn’t be that “close” if HC hadn’t opted for PL.

Bingo. Maybe that accounts for the superiority/inferiority complex to which he refers, if in fact it does exist beyond his own mind.

Nice highlight video. Beyond celebrating a nice victory, it provides a perfect illustration of the often-maligned term "shots falling/shots not falling": see the two three pointers made by Jacob Grandison.

UMass 79, PC 78. Perhaps that means HC is improving more than PC is as the season rolls along. Or perhaps that's just the way the ball bounces.
